FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
As a children's illustrator it is generally too arbitrary to price things by the hour. Instead I prefer to evaluate my prices based on the specs of each job individually. Once I know the scope of the project including number of illustrations, time frame, and the end use of the illustrations (whether for a published book or personal use) I can better provide a quote that will meet both my needs as a contractor as well as the budget of the client.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am an an avid reader about all things children's publishing across many media platforms (physical books, magazines, and industry blogs) which keeps me in the loop with regard to industry trends. I'm also a member of SCBWI (Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators) and stay connected to the field by attending annual society conferences.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I've been drawing and painting since I was a child and found my interest for illustration while a student at the Rhode Island School of Design. Soon thereafter I combined my love of books and reading with my passion for illustration and my career as a children's illustrator began.
