FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Looking at the Thumbtack Insights, my rates average $10 - $20 lower than other teachers in my area. I haven't raised my rates to keep up with the cost of living increases, and have been the same for several years. I offer makeup lessons to students who miss due to sickness. The responsibility of scheduling a makeup lesson is the students, or the parents.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I make them as comfortable as possible. I want to know their experience thus far. Where they are at the present, and what their goals are as a musician. From that point, I'll cater their lessons to fit their desires and goals. Some students want to learn how to play "by ear", while others may want to learn how to read tablature or music notation. From the moment we have a plan, my desire is for them to reach their goals, in a way that is easily understood and not only makes sense, but it enjoyable in the process.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm a self taught musician and learned music notation and theory at a younger age. I have a degree in Audio Recording Engineering which encompasses Live Audio and Production as well. Experience is one of the best teachers, and I worked professionally in the recording industry on music row in Nashville for seven years, as well as audio production for major touring artist and broadcast engineering. I'm a former member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES) and Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE). I have professional experience as a session musician since 1977 and have done session work (guitar) in Florida, Georgia, SC, NC, and Tennessee (Nashville) at some of the largest professional studios in the US. I have performed in bands or music groups since the late 70s through the present, playing many types and styles of music. I also enjoy keeping current with magazines, books, and periodicals regarding guitar playing, recording engineering, and network with fellow musicians that I've come to know.
