FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I do not have a complicated pricing system. I am a "less is more" type of business person. One flat fee includes the time to shoot a session, custom processing, a password-protected online slideshow, and a CD of your hi-resolution images. There are no hidden costs. If you want to order prints through me you are free to do so, and the cost is minimal. I don't believe in price gouging a client for prints.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I segued from being an Art Director for a PR firm in Washington DC to freelance design. I had my first daughter in 2005 and bought my first digital SLR camera at that time. I was asked by friends to photograph their kids. They told me I should start charging for my work. I still do graphic design, but my primary career is now doing editorial and portrait photography.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Ask a photographer if you could see an example of an entire session. Most photographers will only include their absolute best images on their website. So you want to ask to see an full session (usually around 30-40 images). Every image should bring something different. If they are confident in their work, they will not have a problem doing so.
