FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I'm flexible on pricing for design service and offer several methods.. I have a per hour price that is higher than what I use as a fixed price calculation because it is time-consuming to track hours and you can't charge for every little thing you do on a job. It depends on the job and the client as to what method will work best. I prefer a value-based pricing system if the job can be defined enough in the beginning. That means that I estimate a fixed fee based on the value that I bring to the project rather than the time...Should you pay a different price if it takes me 3 days to find an item rather than 3 hours? Value-based compensation pays me for the overall estimated time and knowing what item is right for the project, not the exact time it takes me to find it. A different concept from most designers, but can be a fairer pricing system for you.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BFA Degree in Interior Design from ECU. ASID requires CEUs, and I have always tried to keep up with changing products and methods of design and construction. New technologies are often unproven so not every one is useful, so you have to keep abreast of many things and know when and where you can apply them. I do not pretend to know all there is out there, but willing to research to learn more to assist my clients to make informed decisions.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I have been working with clients building a smart house so they can monitor it from their main home in the northeast. We are installing motorized drapery and shades that can be controlled by the computer system in the home. The home is very large and open so it is also necessary to create separate identities for the spaces but have them flow together visually without competing.
