Introduction
I'm a freelance photojournalist and commercial photographer in Columbia, SC where I work with The New York Times, The Associated Press, Getty Images, The Washington Post and more. My commercial clients have included The South Carolina Agriculture Commission, The Red Cross, Texas Instruments, the ACLU, and more. I love making natural light environmental portraits and enjoy location scouting. As a photographer, I enjoy the creative puzzle that comes along with the process of making still images: balancing space, light, composition, and timing to break off a slice of moment, preserving it for how ever long history demands. As a photojournalist I get an added bonus of being able to experience the worlds of others with whom I share this planet with.

As a reporter, I've hired Rayford on several photojournalism assignments over the years for different publications — and will continue to because of the consistently excellent work he's produced. He's also pretty badass about press freedom and the ethics of photojournalism. When he was shooting from the public right-of-way outside a nuclear plant and security harassed, him he remained cool and professional. And he got a great shot we used for the piece. I also like working with him because ot his sense of adventure. He's usually down for anything — even if it means staking out a small church for hours on a Sunday in the middle of nowhere in the South Carolina countryside.
