Introduction: My name is Justine and I am the Owner/Trainer of Smokey Oaks K9. We are a small training company located in York, SC. Although Smokey Oaks was just founded this year, I have been training dogs for the last 15 years. After moving to the Carolinas from California last year, I decided 2020 was the year for me start my own business! I believe that dog training is all about creating engagement and forging a bond with your dog. Nothing beats having a relationship with your dog that is founded on trust, understanding, structure, and consistency. I want my dog to work for me because he WANTS to work for me! I want to help you build a better bond and understanding with your dog through foundational obedience, confidence building, and structure. I believe that many issues with dogs can be addressed by going back to the foundations and working with the dog on impulse control and better decision making skills. My goal is to teach your dog how to learn and you how to train!

Smokey Oaks has been fantastic! She has truly gotten our dog to listen to is MUCH better, and become much more behaved in the presence of other dogs. I highly recommend her for what she offers each session, the 'homework' that allows us to be better dog owners, and all the benefits that come with being a client!

I wish I could rate them 10 stars because Unleash the Beast is just the best!! Justine and Christian are great people who are amazing at what they do. My pup Rosie is dog reactive, and they have already helped so much. After the first session I saw huge improvement. They have also helped with her manners, commands, and overall behavior. I really appreciate how they fully explain why she is behaving the way she is and the steps to take to improve. They are so patient and really know their stuff! If you need any sort of dog help I highly recommend!!

Justine and Christian were awesome with correcting Dundee’s (and our) behavior. We were struggling to get her to listen, rushing to the door, “comfort” barking, and darting out the door on occasion. She was also stressed around other dogs. We saw huge improvement and will definitely use them again in the future if needed.

We offer a 10% discount to all members of our Armed Forces. We thank all our active duty members and Veterans for their service.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first step to working with us is to set up a FREE 30 minute phone consultation. This allows us to get an insight to the issues you are having with your dog and how our training programs can help you achieve your goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I believe that dog trainers should always be learning. No one person knows everything and no dog is perfect. I do my best to attend as many dog and behavior related seminars that I can. I am also fortunate to work with a network of trainers who spends their free time training. I am constantly learning from those around me and I encourage everyone to do the same!
