Introduction: Free trial lesson for new clients! Hello! My name is Jon, and I'd be delighted to work with you! I tailor a customized lesson program to meet the needs of each individual student. I have 25 years of experience as a professional musician and educator. I'm also very warm and personable in my approach. I make the music lesson experience about YOU, not me, and we'll definitely have a great time while we work together. I'm classically trained, but I'm also very proficient and well-versed in other styles such as rock/pop and jazz. For beginners, I keep things very simple and we go step by step at YOUR pace. For the experienced folks, I simply meet you where you're at, fill in any gaps in your training, and move forward from there. Please contact me for more detailed info. Thanks! I like being able to share what I know with others. I've had many people inspire and mentor me over the years, and now I like to pay that forward and do the same!

Drum Lessons

Never let anybody tell you that you can’t learn to play an instrument when there are amazing teachers like Jon. Highly recommend. He is very reasonably priced and very patient with my sister who has Down Syndrome. She loves loves loves going to drum lessons and we love watching her grow and develop her new skills.

Drum Lessons (for children or teenagers)

Jon worked with my 4 then 5 year old son and he was very patient with him. He constantly worked to adapt the lesson to cater to my child’s interests and attentiveness. Jon is flexible and super friendly. He has a talent both musically and also as a teacher. We enjoyed working with him and would recommend him to anyone interested in drums.

Piano Lessons

If you are looking for an engaging, professional, and enthusiastic piano instructor, look no further! I've had a few piano lessons with Jon and am already learning a lot and having fun at the same time. His passion for music really comes through in his lessons, and he tailors lessons around your skill level, interests, etc. I couldn't recommend him more highly!

Piano Lessons (for adults)

I've been a mostly self taught musician for years, and have been in several different bands since I first started playing. I play guitar and keyboards in my current band, and wanted to expand my knowledge of music theory and overall ability to play piano. Before taking lessons with Jon, my music knowledge basically consisted of random tutorials and lessons on YouTube and observing other players. Jon has helped give me a clear direction of what I needed to do to improve with lessons that he has tailored to allow me to learn exactly what I had hoped to. I didn't really have any desire to learn to read sheet music, but rather learn to read charts and use my own creativity to make music. He is patient, he explains things well, and he is genuinely invested in helping me become a better player. I am 24, but I feel certain that these attributes apply to his lessons with children as well. Highly recommend!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I offer quarterly discounts, so you get 12 lessons for the price of 11 if you sign up and pay for 3 months at a time. I do not charge extra for travel.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

For music lessons, I schedule a "meet and greet" with the client to get to know the family and/or individual a little bit better and spend a few minutes with the student in a trial lesson. There is no obligation for this initial service. From that point it is up to the client to decide whether or not to proceed with a commitment to lessons. For performance services, I invite the client to come to my home and listen to me perform for them as an audition. If the person decides to hire me at that point, I have a work-for-hire agreement that we fill out together.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I've been playing music since 1976, and I've been teaching it since 1990. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from the University of Illinois.
