FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I went to nursing school and worked as a nurse for more than 20 years. I loved being a registered nurse. It is a very rewarding profession. But recently, like many other nurses, I found myself being part of two mass layoffs, both related to the changing face of healthcare. So I decided to follow a dream of working with homes to make them all they can be.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Use a certified stager if you are selling your home. I have been looking at homes online to locate old homes to restore. It is VERY evident that realtors and sellers need a home stager to help them get the most out of the pictures and return on their investment. Some of the homes may have had a realtor attempt to do what they call staging but it was clear they do not understand what staging means. A staged home accents architectural details, open spaces and how the space can be used so the buyer understands the home. One chair in a corner is not staging. Many homes had been discounted up to $20k dollars and have been on the market for 6 months or more because you could not see the inside of the house for the "stuff". Some homes had been restored beautifully but were vacant so their best features were not highlighted. Some were gorgeous inside but outside there was mildew and moss growing on the house. Or you could not see the house for the bushes and the sidewalk needed to be replaced so a potential buyer would not break their ankle walking in. The home has to look as good on the outside as it does on the inside to draw you in. Think of it as going on a first date. First impressions count and ask yourself, "Would I rather take $20,000 off the asking price and take up to a year to sell or spend $350-$5000 to get a professional to help me stage my home ?"

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Home staging and decorating is affordable for everyone. And don't think your job is too small for a decorator. Decorators and home stagers want to help you make your world the best it can be!
