John is a gifted chef. Although he is a formally trained chef, his talent in cooking goes way beyond that training--you might say it was Heaven Sent. John is knowledgeable about preparing all types of food, even fish, which is a particularly difficult item to prepare. I have eaten in some excellent restaurants around the world, and I can honestly say John's food is a winner! Dr. J.

Hired on Thumbtack

Upon meeting John and his wife, we thought they were great. We explained that we are huge foodies and the most important part of our wedding was giving our guests food they would love and remember. They met us for a tasting, which we were very happy with, and we were very excited to hire them…until 10 days before our wedding. I received a call from John stating that his house burned down and asking for the remaining balance of the bill. Well, being the Christian woman I am, I gladly gave him the balance plus a little extra for his woes. He said he would be in Lewisburg around 1:30pm the day of my wedding, with the food and chaffing dishes to setup. On our wedding day, we received a call ONE HOUR before the ceremony from John that he'd gone to Lawrenceburg instead of Lewisburg, even after I had texted him the address twice before the wedding. He asked us for directions from where he was to where we were because he stated that he didn’t have a GPS or Smart Phone. By now my food had just been sitting in his car on his ride from Dickson to Lawrenceburg (1.5 hours) with still had another hour long drive to Lewisburg. So, John shows up just as my ceremony is starting (I was literally stepping off the porch to walk down the aisle). After the ceremony, just as my new husband and I reached the driveway for the reception, John passes us in his car...leaving. Didn’t get out of the car. No, "I'm sorry I was late." No, "Here is how I've put out your food since you didn't have time to tell me how you wanted it", what with us getting married and all. And what do you know, the food was delivered in disposable pans you can buy from Kroger. The loaded mashed potatoes and salad were nowhere to be found, even though we had ordered and PAID for them, and there were no serving utensils. The chicken was completely dried out by then, the roast beef was chewy, the mac and cheese had congealed, and the broccoli was obviously from a frozen bag and inedible. And, of course, everything was cold. It was, in a word, horrible. If his house really did burn down, he should have refunded my $1000 deposit, apologized profusely and explained that under his current circumstances he wouldn’t be able to complete the service to our satisfaction. Yes, it would have been extremely stressful, but I was a caterer at one time. I could have pulled it off, and for half the price. I just didn’t want to have to worry about that on top of all the other things you stress about when planning a wedding. Sadly, I put my trust in someone to make the most important aspect of our wedding amazing, but he ended up making it the most disappointing experience for myself, my husband and our guests. Thank you, Amber (Sandlin) Fortenberry

John was great and very responsive throughout the whole process. He had a lot of ideas and was receptive to feedback. There was plenty of food and we even had leftovers.
