My name is Ray. I earned my M.A. in Teaching Mathematics at California State University, Fullerton, where I also taught as a professor for two years. You can find my reviews on RateMyProfessors.com. I currently teach at a university outside of Nashville. I have over 10 years of experience in education, including tutoring and high school instruction. I believe math is best learned through understanding, not memorization. My goal is to help students think creatively and confidently about mathematics by exploring multiple ways to approach each problem. When applicable, I use Desmos (a graphing calculator) to demonstrate key concepts visually. You’ll learn to see math from both algebraic and graphical perspectives, building a deeper and more flexible understanding. Outside the classroom, I create educational content on my YouTube channels — The Math Brofessor and Reckless Math — where I share lessons and problem-solving strategies in an engaging and approachable way. Ray is hands down the best tutor I could of found for my daughter!!! We've been working together for a month now and my daughter has got 2 "A's" on her tests. She actually for the first time, has a greater understanding of the problems she's trying to solve. He is so passionate about teaching math to others! That's what gets his students drawn into it. My daughter has always struggled with math and now she really enjoys it !! Best tutor EVER!!!

I am a nanny for 3 elementary school-highschool aged girls. The youngest was struggling terribly with fractions and it was a battle every time she had to do homework. As much as I tried to help and break through her frustrations, I just couldn't. Until we found Ray. I figured it was about time to get her professional help. When Ray started his hour with her, her attitude was extremely pessimistic and negative. I was starting to worry that no one could get through. However, as Ray began to really break things down, and approach problems in a way I never would have thought of, you could just see the road blocks come down as she truly began to understand it. Towards the end of the hour, I overheard her say "WOW. I actually get it!! This is actually FUN!" ... I got a little emotionally hearing her say that, because the past few weeks had been such an exhausting battle for the both of us. If you need a tutor that will not only find a way to get your child to understand a concept, but actually change their total outlook on math, Ray is absolutely this tutor. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I don't necessarily have a "special" process that I use. However, along with the goal to bring understanding to the student's current problems/topics, I make sure to reinforce any prerequisite understanding as needed.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been tutoring for over 5 years: private and with a business. In regards to businesses, I have worked for Glendora Learning Center (Math and Spanish tutor), the Azusa Pacific University Math Center (Math tutor), and the APU Learning Enrichment Center (Math and Spanish tutor). In regards to math, I am in progress of getting a bachelor's in mathematics. In regards to Spanish, I have lived in Ecuador on two occasions where I stayed with a Spanish-speaking family.
