FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricing can vary a good deal depending on size, scope and medium of the desired project as well as time frame. In general, I quote within three different price ranges: high detail, medium and low while taking size into consideration. I calculate by surface area and then multiply according to level of detail. My current job minimum is $80. High detail pieces are multiplied by 3, medium by 2 and low either 1.5 or left at the surface area depending on the particular piece and medium. For example, a medium detail painting that measures 16x20 would be calculated as 16x20= 320x2= $640.00 plus materials and shipping. Time frame only affects price when work must be rushed and shipping expedited. The quote I give is a fixed price plus the cost of additional modifications. I always include one free modification request, after which each change will incur a $10 fee. I want to make my customers happy and am willing to work within prescribed budgets and negotiate in order to reach a solution we are both happy with. It is almost always possible to find a reasonable compromise, whether it be a change of medium, scope or size. For murals I charge a design fee in addition to the fixed price. I will waive the initial design fee in exchange for creative freedom or if you already have specific design drawings and requests for what you want. Again, this fee will vary depending on size and complexity, but generally ranges between $100 and $500. This covers the time for initial research and sketch as well as one modification request. Additional modification requests will result in additional design fees. This is why good communication is important from the beginning, but once the sketch is finalized, work will begin. I require 50% down at the beginning of projects over $200, and the remainder upon completion. The design fee, if applicable, will be included in the total cost. For jobs under $200, I require payment upfront and will determine shipping costs upon completion. I offer a referral bonus of 10% of any job you find me! For example, if you send me a client that wants a $1,000 painting, you get $100.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Generally, I like to learn a little bit about you, your style and preferences and what you are looking for. I'll need to know what you want in terms of size, medium and due date. The more information and visual examples you can provide, the better! I may also need to take reference photos or take wall measurements for murals before beginning the design process. After a quote is agreed upon, I'll draw up a simple contract before work begins and send to you for review and electronic signature via Docusign. I'll then accept down payment via Paypal or Venmo. In most cases, I'll then do a finalized sketch for approval or present you with a few different options. This is what the design fee covers. I'll keep you updated as work progresses and make sure you are satisfied with the end result!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Illustration as well as my MFA in Studio Art from the National University of Ireland, Galway. I've worked as a freelance illustrator, graphic designer, faux finisher, muralist, fine artist and curator and have been selling and exhibiting work since I was 14.
