Hired on Thumbtack

Hired on Thumbtack

Absolute nightmare experience. He is a total scammer. He takes as much money as he can on the first stage, then will not finish the job without trying to force extra money from you. I hired him for my septic system on my new home. After the first stage, he wanted about 95% of the money. I wasn't comfortable with this. However, he gave me his sob story of how he really needs the money, and has to pay his tags on his truck, etc. I felt bad for him, and paid him what he asked for, as he promised what a stand up guy he is, and that he'd come back and finish the job. My mistake was trusting this liar. He also said the system would be "turnkey". However, turnkey does not mean turnkey with him. I had to come in and do all the wiring and additional plumbing connections. I asked him for the alarm and access extension piece for months, as he would not return my texts, calls, etc. We had no bad blood at this point. He just would not respond to me, since he had most of my money. I happened to get a message back from him by chance, when he mistook my number for somebody elses. I informed him the tanks he installed were not sealed off from all the muddy rain water. He said he could come back and clean them out, but it would be extra money. I reminded him that when I saw this, I covered the hole, and told him months earlier of the problem. He then said that he'd clean the tanks out, but he would need to charge me more money to come back and clean the trenches. He said I waited too long to get to this point. Funny thing is, he was the one for months ignoring all my attempts at contacting him. He also didn't get me my alarm until very recently. You can't test the system without the alarm. Additionally, he never came to clean the tanks out as he said he would. I took care of that, as I just could not wait any longer. After he finally got me the alarm, I did the state inspection - FAIL. They failed his trenches, and also failed it because where the pvc pipe connects to the tanks, he used foam. This was banned years ago I was told. Again, he said he would take care of removing the foam and replacing with proper material. He never came. I wouldn't agree to pay him more money for fixing his failed trenches. Since I only had a couple/few hundred dollars left on his contract, he has no incentive to finish the job. I will have to find a competent septic guy to finish the job. I am furious with this guy, and am starting legal proceedings against him. I am working with the state as well to go after his license. By the way, the state inspector had no clue as to who this guy is. I'm wondering if he ever had a license. I'm waiting to get my occupancy permit, but it's Tim's failed septic system that is stopping me. For your sake, I strongly recommend finding somebody else. Don't let a cheap price fool you. I think this is what his scam is - give you an affordable price, then when he gets going on the job, demand more money because of bogus reason A or bogus reason B. He tried 3 times to get more money from me than he should have had.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Be sure that the Company you hire does what they do because as a 8 yr kid they were inspired by the their dad and that it's not a dread for them to work. Sure it's not always that easy but nothing worth do right is.
