We were having a 50th birthday party for Laurie who actually used to sing for living so was very nervous about choosing a band. We decided on Mikei & Thieves. Mikei was great to work with on list of songs, arranging a meeting before the event, and multiple emails with coordinating the event. The day of the party the band was set to start playing at 3:30. They arrived around 2 and got everything set up. Everyone at the party was extremely satisfied with the band so much so that they all came to me asking how I found such an amazing band. I was very impressed with how they made the birthday girl feel special. On the band breaks, they would spend time chatting with the her which made her night even more special. We hired the band for 6 hours and have no regrets! Look forward to hiring Mikei & Thieves again very soon!!!

I have known and worked with Rebecca for the past decade in a variety of settings from small clubs to large festivals. She and the musicians she surrounds herself with are always first class and never fail to deliver a spectacular set or two for my events. I plan to continue booking her for at least another decade.

Damian & Carson are awesome and talented artists. I have seen them preform many times & their voices, music & harmony are amazing together. I even had them to perform at my wedding- our first song "January Wedding" by the Avett Brothers. I couldn't think of a better musician couple to dance our first song to. They are absolutely amazing!

The WannaBeatles perform Beatles music very authenticly. CLOSE YOUR EYES...and you will believe you are back in the 60’s listening to the Beatles. I have listened to them many times in various venues and have always enjoyed their performances. They are very entertaining and have great interaction with the audience. Dancing in the aisles (by the audience) is not uncommon. They are excellent musicians and give their all to make the concert experience memorable. I plan to see them whenever I can. The WannaBeatles are the BEST Beatles tribute band I have ever seen.

These guys are great! I know I can trust them with big-budget recordings if I had the chance because they are very thorough and want each client/co-writer/collaboration to go as productive as possible. They have fresh ideas and a "new" vision and outlook for what's to come around the bend in the music industry. The art of what we do is staying ahead of the game. They do this immensely. - Dillon Dixon/Nashville/Europe - Singer-Songwriter

Emily has been wonderful teaching my son the violin. He had never played an instrument and after 2 lessons he already knows 2 songs and how to read some notes. She is very patient and knowledgeable of the violin. We will definitely hire Emily for future lessons. My son loves it when he knows Emily is coming so he can show her what he has praticed!

I have been interested in learning to play guitar for a long time. My son who is going to be a senior was also interested in picking up the bass guitar in order to take a Rock Band class in school. Being a busy mom, I needed someone who could come to our house as well as be flexible with scheduling lessons. Lonny does both of these and is very reasonable with his fee. My son and I both have played piano and 1 other instrument each so that rhythm and reading notes came easier for us. But Lonny took me pretty far in the first couple of lessons that I was able to play notes on all 6 strings and therefore beautiful classical guitar songs with notes and chords in the treble and bass clefs. He is currently working with my son on syncopation. I'm confident that he has listened to my son's goals and will have him ready to be comfortable playing in Rock Band once school starts.

I've heard this band several times, and it's hands down the most fun swing dance/big band/motown band in Nashville. They manage to get more people on the dance floor than any other band I've seen. I've heard from organizers they're very professional to work with as well. Highly recommend.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
