HOW I CAN HELP YOU AND YOUR STUDENT • Professional Assessment of student’s academics & extracurricular activities • Myers Briggs Type Indicator to explore personality, learning styles, and interests of the student. This is a tool that assists bringing vital information into the college search process. • Creation of a personalized college list for student to research • Personalized college application timeline creation • Helping each student with every phase of the application process such as Resume Building, Interview Preparation, Recommendations, and Campus Visits • Guiding students as they "drive" the college search, selection, and application process, in doing so, they learn important life skills: taking responsibility, making important decisions, and how to present themselves in a positive, impressive manner to those around them. • Finding ways to make your student stand out and shine in their application • Set up of Common Application, Coalition Application, UC and CSU • Suggesting programs and/or strategies for special needs, extracurriculars, community service, and/or standardized testing. • Brainstorming, drafting, and editing of personal statements and supplemental essays • Researching College Programs, Majors, and Careers with your student • Guidance for scholarship search and summer programs • personalized attention and support for your student (and for you!) • Final Review of all college applications and supplements. • Assistance with Honors College choices • providing an objective opinion in educational decision-making. JUNIOR & SENIOR YEAR COLLEGE COUNSELING PACKAGE: STARTING JUNIOR YEAR THROUGH JUNE OF SENIOR YEAR WITHOUT UC AND CSU APPLICATIONS AND ESSAYS $4950, WITH UC AND CSU APPLICATIONS $5950 The Senior Year College Counseling Package offers a comprehensive range of services, beginning at the end of sophomore year. This package includes assistance with selecting a possible college major or academic focus, planning summer activities, and navigating the admissions processes for any relevant summer programs. Additionally, it provides guidance on course planning for senior year, developing a testing schedule, organizing college visits, and choosing extracurricular activities. What is not included in the Packages: • Filling out/completing college applications on behalf of the student, students must do their own work; Tam bears no responsibility for applications or essays not approved or submitted without Tam present. • Filling out/completing any forms associated with financial aid. Students and parents are responsible for all Financial Aid information and applications. • I brainstorm, review, suggest, and edit essays, but I do not write essays for students. • Pursuit, review, or identification of scholarships and associated applications/essays from schools to which the student applies is not covered under the comprehensive contract. It will be billed separately at $200/hour. • Honors program applications will be billed separately at $200/hour if I deem it appropriate or possible for the student • Certain competitive programs (art/music portfolios, BS/MD programs are examples) will be a higher fee (as determined by Tam) as there are significant components to these processes. UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA APPLICATIONS AND ESSAYS, CSU APPLICATIONS ONLY $3500 TRANSFER STUDENTS $1800, assisting with transfer applications without essays, $2100 with 3 essays. FRESHMAN & SOPHOMORE MENTORING $250 PER HOUR, MINIMUM OF 5 HOURS I offer the Myers Briggs Type Indicator to help students understand their current personality preferences, learning styles, intelligences and best suited majors and careers. • Mentoring and encouragement. • Assisting the student with extracurricular ideas, community service, and exploration of academic and personal activities. • Talking about Leadership possibilities. • Standardized Testing Advice. • Major Discovery. • Junior Course Selection. • Introduction to the college application process, and how to be prepared. • There will be outside “assignments” that are designed to stimulate and interest the student in these areas. Advice on the path to college including course planning, discussion on activities, extracurriculars, community service and leadership. We discuss the importance of grades for the student who wants to be competitive in the process.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I hold a free consultation with the student and parents, share my comprehensive college-advising services (I do not offer hourly services), discuss the college application process, and, if we both want to move forward, we do so.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Master of Science in Social Sciences, am a Certified College Counselor through UCLA, and am qualified as a MBTI Certified Practitioner. I am also a member of the IECA, Independent Educational Consultants Assoc.
