FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For ASL/sign language tutoring, I price at $35/hour. For language mentoring (which some ASL students may want), I charge $20/hour. Editing: $4/page (a document has already been typed, double spaced, etc). This assumes a 3-day (72 hour) turnaround time. If you need it in 24-70 hours, the rate is $5/page. If you need it in 20 hours or less, the rate (if I accept the assignment) is $8/page.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
During our first meeting, we normally sit down and talk about their goals and expectations for tutoring. We discuss what materials they would like to use, and how they would like to learn, as well as frequency of lessons. After we have gotten the "business" side out of the way, we do start practicing and learning signs during the first meeting.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's in Deaf Studies, and I have taught Deaf students for 13 years, and I have taught ASL in some shape, way or form for more than 9 years. I have taught sign language to adults, college students, other teachers, elementary and secondary students. I have lived within the Deaf community for many years as well. In terms of editing-I have a master's in Curriculum and Instruction: Literacy. I have edited family and friends' papers, my high school newspaper and other documents for years.
