We hired Mrs. Kavitha Mathew as our lawyer and helped us through my greencard application. I had a J-1 visa before I applied for adjustment of status. Along the way, we had a problem with securing a waiver. We didn't expect that my case was gonna be that hard. We looked for immigration lawyers around and they sounded like my case was hopeless until we met Mrs Mathew through this website. We called her and set an appointment with her. The first time we talked to her, she gave us hope and assurance about the case. That's what we wanted to hear from a lawyer, who will listen and be emphatic to what we were going through. That same day we hired her and that's one of the best decisions we ever made. We started applying for the waiver and she guided us through the step by step process. She was so accessible through the whole process, very professional and knowledgeable about the immigration matters. After waiting for the result of my application, I finally got it. I have now a greencard and no worries at all about my legal stay here in the US. This would not happen without Mrs. Mathew's help. I am writing this review to spread out to the online inquirers that she has done an excellent job with my case and maybe in the future she can help you with yours. She has been an amazing immigration lawyer.

Knowing how important the green card application is, my husband and I decided that we need an immigration lawyer to help us with it. On the search of an experienced immigration lawyer, I met Tope. I was very impressed with how she dealt with me compared to other lawyers. Unlike other lawyers, Tope gave me the quote of how much the whole process would cost us which is a lot more affordable than other lawyers and she was ready to meet me in her office the next day I contacted her. So, I hired her after I met her in her office. She really has great work ethics. Within a week after I hired her, all the paper work was done and she filed it for us. We know that the process takes time but we are very happy with how the process going. We have the receipts from the USCIS like how she explained to us about steps after we filed the paper work. We know all of this wouldn’t be done as the way it is without her help. She is an awesome lawyer who cares and ready to help anytime we need it. We are very grateful and for that I’m writing this review.

I had an amazing experience with Ify. She’s very attentive and she answered all my questions. She made me feel like I was one of her friends or a family member which I loved because we connected instantly and her aura was amazing. I have worked with lawyers before and some was about the money and their time but with Ify, she made sure I was taken good care of. I will definitely work with her again.

A good lawyer is invaluable in a court of law. I located Will Jacob via 'Father's for Equal Rights' when I felt that I was being mistreated by my son's mother in regard to visitation. After much litigation (and much explanation from Mr. Jacob) the courts finally resolved to provide me SOLE CUSTODY of our son. This never would have happened without the legal guidance and shrewd maneuvering of the outstandingly Good Will Jacob. I would highly recommend him with any family legal matter as I recommend him to all of my friends that have family matters that need addressing by our wonderful court system. Give him a call.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

How do you find a good immigration lawyer?

Research is key to finding a good immigration lawyer. The immigration process can be overwhelming and complex, so a trustworthy advocate is critical. When you have identified several eligible candidates, verify their immigration law license to protect yourself and your finances. Once you have a set of licensed immigration lawyers in mind, choose one based on these considerations:

    • Mutual respect: You want an immigration lawyer who treats you and your family with kindness and consideration. You’ll do the same for them.
    • Availability: Before hiring, note if they have responded promptly to your emails and calls. You don’t want to hire someone you have to chase around.
    • Proven success: Read former client reviews and research their success rate with cases similar to yours.
    • Transparent rates: Ask directly about what their rates are, how they bill, and what they estimate your legal fees will be. Ask if they will sign a fee agreement, and get receipts for all fees paid.
    • Verify who will handle your case: Sometimes junior lawyers work on firm cases. This is okay, as long as you have discussed it and are comfortable with it. When junior lawyers or paralegals are working on your case, ask if the hourly rate is lower.
    • Be wary of anyone who promises you specific results: No case is certain, and the immigration lawyer should be honest about what you can expect.

How much does an immigration lawyer cost?

Immigration lawyers are experts in the nuances of the highly complex United States immigration system. They help clients of all backgrounds petition for immigration status and become U.S. citizens, and can represent clients who are facing deportation or detention. Nationally, the cost people pay for immigration lawyers averages $500-$1,010. The services you need will have a huge effect on your costs. For routines cases, such as applying for a travel visa, an immigration lawyer may be able to confidently quote you a set price, while more open-ended cases may be billed at an hourly rate of $200-$500, or more, depending on the reputation and experience of the firm and lawyer. Before hiring an immigration lawyer, ask what their plan for your case is and what expected costs may be. Many immigration lawyers work from retainers, and request a set amount of money upfront from which to work. For example, a lawyer who charges $300 per hour may estimate $4,000 for a standard family-based immigration case, the common process in which a U.S. citizen petitions for permanent residency for their spouse, fiancee or family members.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
