As a parent, these may be some of your concerns: • Money/cost • Schedules - How are the lessons going to fit in with your child and your schedule • Having to travel to the lessons • Whether or not your son/daughter is motivated enough to stick with the lessons (you don’t want to spend money on a guitar and lessons for them if it’s not something they really want to do) After gaining years of guitar teaching experience, I try to address the above issues as effectively as possible; I will do the same for you. My name is David. I’m a student (22) and have been playing guitar for a little over 10 years and have been teaching for a little under five. I have had students from as young as 5 years old to as old as 35 years old, although most of them fall under the teenager category. I have a very practical approach to teaching guitar because I know from experience that most students respond best to this approach. When first beginning to play the guitar, kids want to learn how to play songs, not how to read music. The theory is not the best place to start, although some of the basics are necessary. I get an idea early on concerning why the student wants to learn guitar and adapt my teaching where necessary. Younger kids are going to be taught different material than older kids; it’s that simple.
