- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Keep in mind that the project shoot is only a small portion of the time required for an event of photo project. Image processing normally take 2-3 times the time it takes to shoot the photos. Most people say I can't believe you charge that much for 2 or 3 hours, when in reality there is 6-9 hours of work total for a 2-3 hour project.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I am not a bargain basement bidder. If you're looking for the absolute lowest price, I will never be that. First of all, very few photographers have the extensive equipment I have. A true professional with an extensive knowledge and training in Photoshop has to purchase all the equipment, software and pay for advanced training in the use of the software. It involves high end computers, storage, backups, 20-30k in equipment and lighting etc. If someone says they can shoot a 2 hour job for you for $200 to $300, they're not a real professional. They are someone who makes money with their camera. That's not to say that they can't give you good images, they can. You probably would not notice what you're not seeing in their images unless you compared them side by side and the difference would then absolutely floor you.
