Introduction: I recently joined Thumbtack as an entertainer. I have played piano professionally for over 30 years, both as a soloist and bandleader. I have a large repertoire of songs spanning the American songbook, jazz standards, Brazilian and Latin, popular and classical works. I presently am the musical Contractor and head pianist at Turner’s restaurant in the Galleria area of Houston, where we feature top notch solo piano and duo acts five nights per week. My company also books combos of 2-5 musicians for smaller private parties, retirement homes, and corporate events. Most importantly, I make sure all of the music details of your party or event are addressed. I perform out many times per week which allows you to come meet me, and here me play live before your event.

Barry really has a special way with children! My 8-year old son began taking piano lessons with Barry earlier this year, when we first acquired a piano (Spring). Barry has skillfully tailored each lesson to my son's personality and needs. He not only shares and enhances my son's enthusiasm for the music, he also demonstrates flexibility--Barry instinctivley senses when it's time to focus his attention on developing the discipline it takes to master an instrument, and when to simply allow my son the time he needs just to just simply explore the piano in his own way, so that it stays fun. This combination, I believes lends itself to a child's true love of playing, and prevents the lessons from becoming a "chore". I'm so impressed with Barry's special affinity with children, that I just recommended him to my neighbor, who has an 8 year old as well!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Distance is a factor in pricing, Sound systems for larger events are contracted and cost extra. Saturday nights are premium nights and generally not discounted.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Once we agree on prices and date of event, I send a questionnaire to client to understand their musical preferences for the event. Either I use this myself if I am playing, or I forward it to the musicians who have contracted. Everything I do I submit to a contract To protect both the client and the musicians.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I’ve studied music at the college level, and continue to study new styles music at the highest level. I’ve played for over 25 years in society bands and worked for various agencies before starting my own. I’ve been a band leader for 30 years.
