When I was transferred from Texas to Maryland I bought a charming 2-story Victorian on the historic register -- with major structural issues caused by old termite damage. I had no idea how extensive that damage would prove to be. In desperation, I flew J Oxford and one of his men to Maryland to fix the damage. He leveled the house, rebuilt the floor joists in the kitchen, added 2-1/2 bathrooms, moved the kitchen, turned the back porch and storage area into a family/dining room and made that house a jewel. Before he left, I asked him to build a small guest house. Maryland is very strict with permitting and building inspections, and his work passed every inspection the first time. I sold that house and returned to Texas in January 2005. I immediately purchased 3 foreclosure houses that were in the most deplorable condition I had ever seen. Interior Finish Systems inspected each house before I bought it and assured me they could bring them back to life and up to code. I just wish I could post pictures. I paid $10,000 for the first house that we called "the nasty little sh**t hole". The 3-bedroom house was wired using just two 20-amp breakers with open splices throughout the attic. It got all new wiring and plumbing and a major makeover. It was beautiful when they were through. The inspector said it passed inspection better than the new houses in the area. I paid $15,000 for the second house and discovered the aluminum wiring had actually caused some little fires in the walls and the plumbing and the roof leaked. Again IFS worked their magic and it sold the same day I listed it. I paid $13,500 for a "camp house" with a view of the lake. It was unlivable by anyone's standards. IFS completely renovated the house, added a 600 sq ft master bedroom suite and a large covered front porch complete with ceiling fans. It sold for $107,000. I then purchased a 4th house for $20,500 that was advertised as "more than a handyman special." It sat empty for over three years and had been stripped to the bones by vandals. It also had a huge tree through the garage compliments of Hurricane Ike. After Interior Finish Systems worked their magic, it was such a beautiful home that I moved into it myself. Their service was professional and creative, and when I wanted a wall moved or a last-minute change, they were more than accommodating. After I moved into the last house, I hired them to build a large two-story shop in the back of the property. I would never consider using another contractor. Once you find a contractor you can trust, that will be your contractor for life!
