FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes, I train in advanced mediation, arbitration, and negotiations. I also attend local bar association trainings to stay up-to-date with legislative and common law changes.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I worked in architecture for 5 years before going back to law school. I lived through several recessions during my architecture years in Houston, Texas and saw very experienced and intelligent architects lose their retirement and businesses because the profession is based so heavily on the economy. I wanted to add to my credentials so I could still work in the construction industry but not be so dependent on the economy. I started working family law cases as favors to construction clients over the years. In 2006 I trained as a mediator and volunteered for an organization that helps lower income clients resolve disputes. My settlement rate was so high in the civil cases I handled the organization asked me to train for family law cases so I did. Since then I have mediated over 100 family law cases.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
In family, the most common family law jobs I see are divorces, modifications of child support/custody cases, custody cases, and paternity cases. In construction, the two most common types of cases I handle are construction or design defect cases and fee dispute cases.
