FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Full website builds start at $35,000 and are quoted at a fixed price for an agreed scope, never hourly, so there is no running meter and no surprise invoice. Smaller pieces, single-page work and consulting run $250 an hour. Ongoing work runs on a monthly retainer from $3,000, which reserves a block of hours at a 20 percent discount off the hourly rate and covers updates, backups and monitoring. Your hosting, domain and tools stay in your name and on your card; we set them up, never mark them up, and charge for our work only. If a template or a small fix is the right call, we say so.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Send the page or the problem, who the buyer is, and what you want that person to do. We review it against that job and come back within one business day with a straight recommendation: rebuild, go smaller, or leave it alone, with a scoped quote. If we go ahead, we agree what stays (content, URLs, what already converts), design and build the approved direction, share a working preview on desktop and mobile, then launch, check links, forms and tracking, and hand over everything in your name. The person you talk to at the start is the person doing the work through launch.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Devin Pickering, founder of Surf Studios, holds a four-year Bachelor of Design (Honours) from York University, and the training that has counted most is fifteen years of design and build on the job. He has led design at SanMar, North America's largest apparel platform, where he grew the design practice across a 6,000-person company; served as creative director at Enverus, rebranding ten-plus products; ran web for The Mysterious Package Company, where weekly testing lifted conversion 18.8 percent; and founded iceDive Creative Solutions in 2008, a studio that built hundreds of sites before it was acquired in 2016. He has been designing since he was a kid and sold his first website at 13.
