- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Nutritional Consultations begin with an initial assessment. Given all the factors that may influence an individual’s diet, we consider more than a person’s weight, height, gender, and activity level which are the typical questions used to establish an individual’s base metabolic rate in most equations. We also consider your in-depth diet history, past failed or successful nutrition plans, physical activity log, health conditions, schedule, food preferences (timing, type, co-op meal planning), budget, supplement history, nutritional goals and more. After taking into consideration all these factors, we develop an agreed upon, realistic diet design and meal plan with your timing and goals in mind. During the initial and follow-up sessions we also discuss how to identify and select healthier or certain foods at stores, markets and restaurants. We consider healthier food preparation methods at home and why these food preparation methods and nutritional choices are selected for your diet plan. The consultation includes a visit to your grocery store, where we discuss nutritional labels & claims and to identify healthier food options to help out your diet. We examine any questions the client may have as it relates to their diet assessment, plan, food selection, metabolic processes, diet myths or misconceptions. Upon conclusion, we ensure that the client has the tools, resources, knowledge, and motivation to be successful in their nutritional goals. Follow-up sessions include assessing, accountability, and if necessary, modifying or adapting any part of their diet plan. We can also discuss into more detail about proper food selection, preparation methods, and the reasons why. Overall, it is our objective that each individual not only receives a nutrition plan that helps them achieve their goals, but also the motivation, resources and knowledge to sustain a healthy nutrition plan. Fitness and Personal Training sessions starts with an initial assessment when we establish your overall fitness level. This may be conducted via face-time, or at an agreed upon location. We begin by assessing your activity, metabolic composition, and overall health history. We then perform flexibility, stabilization, balance, cardio, and strength assessments in order to establish an effective starting point. Before establishing an exercise and fitness program design, we consider your availability and access to resources, equipment, and locations. Upon appointing an obtainable, measurable and realistic goal, we form a program. We provide you with a monthly and weekly program plan, workout log and templates, exercise guides and resources. During personal training sessions we not only provide motivation and encouragement, we teach and address proper techniques, movements and flexion-extensions for optimal development for each exercise. As you progress in your training, we discuss and provide more advanced exercise concepts. Our aim is to provide the motivation, insight and ability for you to develop and achieve the most out of your workouts upon completion of our personal training sessions.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition Education, with an emphasis in Sports Nutrition from Weber State University. I’ve conducted, presented and published peer reviewed journal research articles including Diet and Metabolic Syndrome in “Nutrients 2019” during my last two years at the University. After completing additional courses in exercise science and athletic training at the university, I obtained a NASM-Personal Trainer Certification in order to gain experience in the commercial fitness setting. My informal education and training began over 15 years ago when I started sifting through, studying, and applying strategies from blog posts, books, journal research articles, and individual accounts. After conducting and maintaining my weight, fitness and overall well-being transformation, I begin competing in bodybuilding competitions which introduced me to other individuals, their nutritionist, trainers, practical tools and experiences. During this time, I have had the opportunity to serve in the USAF for 13 years, and I began to help other service members achieve and maintain their fitness standards. Throughout deployments in various locations and environments I had to adapt and put into practice realistic nutrition and fitness plans for me and others. Overall, my experience at the University and informal training and education opportunities has provided me the tested and applied knowledge and confidence to help others with their nutrition and fitness goals.
