I was so intimidated to learn Mandarin, I have to travel to Beijing for business in three months and it seems like... well, like learning Chinese, haha. Tyson made me feel so much more relaxed about the idea. He carries on conversations with me in Mandarin where I have to continually use the words and phrases I'm working on. I'm learning so much and most importantly every time I work with him I feel more confident. I think in three months I'm actually going to be able to find my way to the bathrooms, order dinner, and exchange pleasantries thanks to Tyson. Oh and I'm also learning little things about the culture - how to be polite, what not to say, etc. Stuff I need to know to (hopefully) not put my foot in my mouth. Thanks Tyson!

Really pleased with Tyson's fluency in the language and his easy ability to communicate and share and help a total novice understand Chinese from the very basics onward. He's flexible with scheduling and fun to work with.

Tyson Wright has been working with my 13 year old daughter with her Chinese and I couldn't be happier. She went from being frustrated with her Junior High Chinese class to going over her vocabulary and tones all the time. Her confidence has increased and she looks forward to her tutoring sessions. Tyson makes the lessons fun by working with her outside while they pass a volleyball back and forth. This is such a nice change for her after sitting all day long at school. Tyson is a pleasure to be around. He is exceptionally courteous, cheerful, and easy to work with. He is a person that genuinely cares about results and is interested in my daughter's success.

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

When I first meet a new student, I like to get a feel for where their Mandarin is at and also what their goals are. Together we will talk about goals and strategy to help reach those goals. I also like to understand their learning style. Everyone learns differently, once I understand best how a student learns, we can cater to those specific needs.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I spoke fluently in Mandarin for two years when I lived abroad in Taiwan. I have also studied Mandarin at the University level and I continue to use Mandarin daily in my work.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

The main thing to think about when looking for a Mandarin teacher is what your specific goals are. Communication is key. It is important to find a teacher that is flexible to a student's specific learning style so they can have a fun time while absorbing the maximum amount possible. I am very passionate about Mandarin, but even more passionate about teaching. I work hard to find my student's learning style and work with them according to their needs.
