Introduction: I have a special gift for working with young actors and as a working actress, I practice what I preach.
Here's more about my method of teaching: I focus on listening and being in the present moment in every single moment of the scene. I keep things simple. In my opinion its possible to over analyze a script and that just tends to put an actor in their head. I encourage actors to make some basic choices up front (where are you, what are you physically doing, what is the relationship to the other, how do you feel about them, what are you trying to accomplish?) then with those choices, still remain in the present and allow yourself to listen and respond in real time to what you are given. Acting has to be real! We don't pay money to see actors faking it. We must use ourselves and be fully available to the imaginary circumstances in real time.
Meisner said "acting is living truthfully under imaginary circumstance". I totally agree. The only thing we are "pretending" are the circumstances. The rest comes from a genuine place within us as an individual. Acting isn't rocket science. And it shouldn't feel hard.
As an actor my most important and life-changing training was with Anthony Meindl when I lived in Los Angeles. He is amazing and I was lucky to study with him. It taught me a great deal about being a teacher as well.
Connecting with actors that want to learn and are willing to work hard.
