FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My hourly charge is pretty well set. I don't offer bulk discounts or anything lol. If you have two or more children you'd like me to work with, we can negotiate a bit on that, perhaps. But usually, working with two students for one hour means that each of them ends up with 30 minutes of attention, not 45-60. It doesn't save money for me to work with two at once. If your child is struggling, he or she needs focused help, not just another classroom experience.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I would love to see current schoolwork BEFORE I come, especially work that your child doesn't understand. I can wing it if necessary, but being well-prepared is better for everyone. Additionally, if the parent can get a few sentences from the teacher about where the comprehension gap is, that's even better. I realize not all teachers can make time for personal correspondence, but if the parent is able to forward some comments from the teacher to me a few days before we meet, that is an enormous help. Even with all that, though, it may take me two or three sessions to get to know your child well enough to get into a rhythm.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I don't have a math or teaching degree. I just have lots and lots of experience (35 years now), and I LOVE teaching. It's fine if you want to "test drive" me for a couple of weeks or so and see how you and your child feel. No hard feelings if you want to keep looking elsewhere.
