They came when they said they would, did an excellent job of repairing the asphalt driveway at my house, and cleaned up well after the job. And they had the lowest price. All in all an outstanding experience!

We had Michael expand and lengthen our concrete driveway to triple it's original size. We also had him lay flagstone pavers on our front walkway, porch and side porch. Can't say enough about what a wonderful experience it was. Michael was responsive, prompt, courteous, and meticulous. Overall he and his crew did an outstanding job. And to top it all off, his prices were very fair! I will definitely use Michael again for future projects and have already recommended him to my neighbors. Very happy with his work!!! You can't go wrong hiring him.

B&G Construction did an amazing job! I had them rip up about 200 sq feet of concrete, regrade the backyard, and then sod the entire area. They were able to do the job very quickly, and the price was very reasonable. It was a pleasure to work with them, and I highly recommend B&G.

AllScapes did an outstanding job removing a large tree. As the pics show (2 before, 2 after) the tree was precariously positioned and had to be carefully carved up and dropped avoiding a fence, a new concrete slab, and other trees all around. Great price, timely service, and a lot of fun to watch.

Mark Jones Sr. and Mark Jones Jr. were both on site during the job - it's nice that the owners of the company take a personal interest in getting the job done right. We had our driveway repaved and our front walk reshaped and replaced with pavers. Both the driveway and the walk look fantastic. Very pleased with their service and the final product. I would recommend them!

Very prompt and responsive from giving the written price quote to the final execution of the driveway repair project. Impressive enough to convince our neighbors to opt for their services. And their price was the most competitive among the three we considered. Good job!

Driveway sealing - Contractor arrived when scheduled and was careful not to spray sealer on the house or flagstone sidewalk. Nice job.

Elite Paving did a great job on our small concrete patio project. Very professional and the cost came out exactly as we had estimated. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that they were not very prompt with communication.

Everton's Landscaping did a concrete driveway for me behind the house. Five stars without a doubt... Everton came early to the appointment for the estimate, measured, explained what he would do and then gave me a verbal quote which was followed up by a contract a few days later. The concrete looks great; they even put in some posts for a fence for me! Everton and his team take pride in what they do. I'd call him again if I need him.

Mike Campbell and his crew have done work for me both at my place of business, a hotel, and at my home. Concrete work is not a quiet business but Mike was able to schedule the work in terms of time and work area so that my guests had no complaints. More importantly, his work was completed on time and within budget. His crew cleaned up the area at the end of each workday and my Chief Engineer was pleased that he did not have to pay his staff overtime to police the area. Exceptional quality of work and I recommend Centreville Concrete unequivocally.

Absolutely use Absolute Paving, Inc.! Our old gravel driveway was at least 20+ years old and in deteriorating condition. After a torrential storm in March, parts of the driveway looked like the Grand Canyon. We received several estimates and decided to go with Absolute Paving. Damon impressed us with his thoroughness and willingness to explain options and tell us his thoughts on what was the best way to proceed. He answered all of our questions and was just an all around nice guy. His suggestions for our situation were on target, no frills, just what needed to be done. Other things we loved about this team: they were "absolutely" hard working and really did their utmost to turn the job around as fast as they could, without at all compromising quality. The removal of the old driveway and laying of the new asphalt was completed within the time quoted (1 1/2 days). All in all we had an incredible experience working with Damon and Absolute Paving. Our neighbors were in awe at the quality of the work! We hope this review helps others find them! Jeff & Suzette S. (Glen Arm, MD)

I had a small project, my half of a driveway that was in severe disrepair and needed to be repaved, and it was difficult to find a contractor willing to take it on. I advertised on Thumbtack, and Danny Morgan, owner of D&M, responded promptly. He came by the same day to look at the driveway, and offered me a very good price if I scheduled it the next day when he already had a crew in place for another job. The driveway is shared, and a big bonus was that he persuaded my neighbors to pave their half as well! He and his crew did an excellent job and the driveway looks great. In addition to the outstanding quality of the work, I really appreciated his responsive communication in real time on the Thumbtack site, his understanding of the delicate situation with my neighbors, and the courtesy and professionalism he and his crew showed at every stage of the project. I will be using D&M again to seal the driveway in a couple of months once it is cured, and I recommend D&M and Danny to anyone looking to do a paving project.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

    What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time. When hiring a paving contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
    • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
    • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
    • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
    • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
    • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
