- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I never thought that I would take music as my profession ever. I was a geeky child who loved to do math and science and I was one of the best academic student all my life. I simply learned music because my mother is a singer and she sent me lessons. I did not take to classical music at that age but I enjoyed singing pop songs as a teenager and performing as a lead singer in my college band. Like many others, I came to the US for my education in M.S in Computer Engineering and went on to computer for big corporations and even start ups for several years. Along the way, I always sought out musicians and opportunities to sing and jam popular Bollywood songs (classical and non-classical). I always drew great satisfaction in organizing shows and performing and raising money which we donated to organizations that help under-served children. Along the way, I realized how thankful I was to my parents to send me to Classical music training in my early years. Music training manifested in my many ways both in my professional job as a computer engineer as well as a singer and organizer of our band. The more I worked on bands and performing, the more I wanted to share it. My mother who taught music to children inspired me to TRY it out for a few neighborhood kids in Ashburn, VA. I fell in LOVE with the experience of teaching children music and seeing them grow and learn, also seeing how many opportunities I have to talk to them about life and building a good personality. What I also noticed that while the children were learning music, they also needed much variety and different teaching methods. I soon realized that the children of today need varied and different learning methods from how I was taught. Soon, I launched "Notes n' Beats" as a summer camp to explore the idea of teaching music to children the Notes n' Beats way - JUST the way kids like. With traditional ways of teaching coupled with modern music and a perfect mix of multiple genres of music, teachers at Notes n' Beats are encouraged to create and arrange new styles of music. We experiment with both Indian and Western music to create ensembles, A Cappella and band. Notes n' Beats is now often referred to as a place that helps identify what children want out of music and to make the process of learning fun. I am hugely thankful to my husband, Rajesh Kolluri, who has been so supportive of my efforts and has taken on many of my responsibilities at home so that I can focus on building the right music program for the children of today.
