FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I generally price labor for jobs by the time I think it will take to do the job and in full day or half day blocks. Then I provide an itemized list of materials with a cost breakdown. I do not have a mark up on materials but just charge whatever I pay for them or let the customer get them. I want to very clear on what is included in the price because I rarely if ever add a change order to the contract.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I typically get new customers from referrals. Usually I set up a meeting time and go over the details of the project. I ask questions about the scope and provide recommendations for design and cost effectiveness. I have a very simple standard contract to which I add the scope of work, price, and payment schedule as well as other pertinent information.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Although I have a bachelors degree from Purdue University in construction I have learned a lot by simply years of doing. I have always enjoyed working with my hands and working with people. I have completed several courses required to obtain licensing in Virginia and also in Florida.
