We had about 3 other contractors come in and quote us $10k to remove mold we found from our back basement bedroom. We decided to look for one more, and my God did we find them. Ashanti was great! He was very talkative, but in a good way. He made sure we knew what we were getting into, and made sure he kept us updated through the process. You can tell he cares alot about his customers experience. Their cost was half of the cost of the other 3, and they could also do the rebuild. They came in , did what they had to, and got out. We highly recommend them!

Hired on Thumbtack

I have worked with many contractors on Thumbtack, and unfortunately this was the first time I experienced such an unprofessional and disappointing situation. What follows is my honest and factual account of my experience with this contractor. I initially hired him for a mold inspection. He identified mold, provided an estimate, and began the remediation with two of his employees. Once the wall was opened, additional mold was discovered and the estimate changed. After some negotiation, we agreed on a final price, and I was told the work would be completed within 3–4 weeks. From the beginning, the project showed very little progress. The contractor repeatedly assured me he would come to the site, but he often failed to show up. He rarely answered phone calls and primarily communicated through text messages or long voice notes with promises that were not kept. His employees were inconsistent and appeared to make minimal progress, and at times no one showed up at all. Over the following weeks, this pattern continued. He frequently claimed the workers were on another job and would arrive shortly, but they seldom did. When he finally came after multiple attempts to reach him, he cited personal issues and blamed delays on firing one of his employees for poor work. He promised to personally complete the job within a week, but again failed to follow through. The quality of work performed was below expectations. Paintwork was poorly done, shower fixtures were not properly reinstalled, and trim and finishing details were left incomplete. Despite clearly communicating our need for a firm timeline due to hosting a family event, the project continued to be delayed. We ultimately had to cancel our plans because the work was still unfinished. After more than four weeks of repeated delays, excuses, and lack of communication, he apologized and offered a $1,000 refund due to the issues and delays. However, this refund was never provided. Trash and debris from the project were also left at our home, despite us being charged $500 for removal. Overall, this was the bad experience I have had on Thumbtack. The project was mishandled from start to finish, communication was extremely poor, commitments were repeatedly broken, and the quality of work was unsatisfactory. I would not hire this contractor again and cannot recommend his services.

R&D Contracting's reply
Hey Harini! Hope alls well. I understand your feelings and agree for the most part however, you asked us to cut corners, by pass iicrc, and EPA standards. we initially quoted you a higher dollar amount, and then deduced your cost by I believe around $4000.00. We found water leaking in from the the exterior, but were told by you to leave it leaking. By that point remediation was completed but not source control. Which meant everything was going to happen again, so unknown to you, we wateerproofed that portion of the wall for free. Your biggest concern was save save save, which I agree, but not at the sake of the quality of woek. We finished our mold portion on time with 0 issue or concern. The problems came in, when we went to rebuild the bathroom for you. you were amazing with allowing us to come as early and stay as late as we wanted, I can also say that we did run into a few issues on our end. For example me being in the hospital, but ultimately, most of our problems came from being given an unrealistic request to reduce cost by thousands, but then requesting the same thousands in repair cost to be done. After my hospital stay I came to talk, and offered for us to come in and finalize, you said yes, but your husband will say no. I asked around 3 or 4 times and to no avail, still a no. I apologize for the experience you had and take full responsibility for our end of the deal. The offer still stands for us to redo some of the work, that I agree was done poorly and not to my standard. For example, the trim, and drywall in the closet. Feel free to text or call me anytime to discuss. Also, dont forget the toilet leak needs to be solved. you have a peice of gorilla tape on the crack but it needs to be replaced or this whole process will restart.
