Introduction: I have been taking care of horses since the age of 10. I am a certified riding instructor, graduated from the World Renowned Morven Park International Equestrian Institute, in Leesburg Va. At Morning Mist Farm, we strive for Safety First. Horsemanship, Equine Knowledge, Fun, Lifetime Experiences and Friendships develop while learning confidence and achieving goals (goals set by students and sometimes pushed to strive for more by Miss Nancy), to reach their full potential. We have outstanding schoolmaster horses and ponies to learn all aspects of being an Equestrian..From grooming to riding, turnout, giving bathes, and everything that has to do with horses. Our emphasis is Dressage, Balance Seat with Show Jumping and Natural Horsemanship. I teach beginner thru advanced. Morning Mist has events such as our well known Bonfires and Weenie roosts, Pony parties, at our farm or your back yard. If you have a special request, just let us know...We will do our best to accommodate your needs. Our Barn is also available for Private Parties. We charge an hourly fee, will provide pony rides and hay rides if you choose. You can bring the food, entertainment and decorations, or we can do it for you. Please contact Miss Nancy for more information and pricing. ATTENTION: SPECIAL INSIGHT FOR PARENTS: Your child will readily get out of bed to spend time at our farm. They want to muck stalls, clean tack, scrub water buckets, instead of cleaning their rooms or doing chores at home. The parents know their children are in a safe place and come home exhausted, happy and feeling good that they have spent the day with horses, other children with similar interests and happy. Here at Morning Mist, we are a "working barn". We have a feeling of camaraderie, which leads to very close relationships with boarders, riders and all that travel down our lane. We take pride in professionalism, showmanship, friendship, our horses and all aspects of riding, training and top notch care of horses and people. I love that our Barn is unique in the way, that everyone loves being here, in a "Stress Free Zone", We help each other, without ever being asked, and have a great feeling of Security, in both friendships and horsemanship. When you arrive at Morning Mist Farm, You will feel the serenity and happiness that awaits everyone. Leave your worries, work, personal stress and problems behind while enjoying the peacefulness of our barn, horses, clients, students and other guests.

Riding at Morning Mist was awesome. I took lessons with Nancy for about a year and enjoyed every minute of it. The farm is nice and maintained well. She doesn't just teach how to ride, but also grooming and care for the horses. Her horses and ponies are all very well trained and a joy to work with. This was my first experience learning to ride and Nancy took her time and was very patient with me. She taught and coached me when needed and figured out that at some points I have to be given time to learn on my own. Overall this was a very rewarding experience and I would recommend Morning Mist Farm and Nancy to anyone interested in learning english riding from beginner to advanced.

When my husband and I wanted to treat the grandkids to a beginners' riding lesson I went looking online for a stable in our small community and stumbled across Morning Mist Farm. I was impressed by the certification of Ms. Stewart from Morvan Park's equestrian center, which is well known in our area. I also liked the look of the website which stresses the range of services available. http://www.morningmistfarminc.com I thought that for a first time introduction to horse care, this might be the place. Talking to Miss Nancy on the phone, she asked quite a bit about the grandkids and their interests and when we arrived for the lesson, she knew their names and remembered what I'd told her about them. I was a bit worried that two kids might be a lot for one instructor to handle in a two hour lesson but Miss Nancy arranged to have an assistant so that each child had one-on-one help. She and Rachel switched off so that each one had information from both people on the areas they were learning, which ranged from how to act around a horse, how to put on a saddle and bridle correctly, how to groom a horse properly and how to get on and off safely. Helmets were provided that fit both kids and safety was emphasized in each aspect of their lesson. They both learned how to sit properly on a horse, the right position for their feet in the stirrips and how to turn their horse during their session on horseback. After a stroll around the ring, the kids practiced balance on horseback by tossing their water bottles around, followed by more riding to insure that they were both comfortable on a horse's back. Then it was time for a leisurely walk on horseback around the pond, an instructor right next to each child and their pony. The final part of the lesson was removing the saddle and bridle once their horse was back in their stall, how to curry the horse after exercise and how to clean the stall after a pony potty break. We did not cover cleaning tack as so much was covered in one lesson. Maybe next time.... The ponys were incredibly well behaved and trained. They were affectionate with the kids and the onlookers, too. Each child had a lot of individual attention and encouragement, although Miss Nancy was quick to correct bad habits in a kind way. She even did a little extra with our older grandchild who is in a pre-vet program to show her how to examine a horse's mouth properly. I was really impressed by the thoroughness of the lesson and how organized Miss Nancy is. If our grandkids lived in the area, I'd sign them up for a series of lessons, just to broaden their appreciation of horses and how much fun (and how much work) they are. Jane W.

I took lessons from Nancy and helped out at the farm regularly for 6 years. I loved the amount of freedom and responsibility she gave me when I was on the farm and around the horses. She really allows the farm to become your own! She is a wonderful and talented instructor, and teaches from a deep understanding of the relationship between horse and rider. I love Nancy and MMF!

I used to be just a mediocre rider, always letting myself get lazy and fall out of balance or let the horse get out of control. When I started learning from Nancy I saw instant improvement. Because Nancy works from the ground up, I'm able to do anything I want--from Natural Horsemanship to Western Pleasure to Classical Dressage if I desired. What I enjoy most about Morning Mist Farm is that the teaching style is firm but gentle and the horses are safe and fun.
