FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Having my Bachelors in Business and my Masters in IT, I was a liaison on numerous occassions between the business and technology folks. There were many times where I had to translate technical specs into laymens terms for the business and draw out business requirements in a Visio process flow for the developers. Because of my educational background and over 17 years experience in the IT industry, I am a great asset to have on any team looking for a great Business Analyst and Technical Writer.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
The most common types of projects I work on are end user guides/manuals and online help content for systems/applications. I have many years experience also creating coure curriculum and training materials, test plans and test scripts, business requirements, and website content. Each client has different requests and the project scopes vary from small documents (under 10 pages) to large documents (over 100 pages).
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Make sure that you have details of exactly what you want done for the project. Many clients have a general overview (the 20,000 foot view, as I call it), but when it comes to specifics, they are unsure. Try to figure out what the end product should be. This includes the type of deliverable (for example, a Word document, a PDF file, html code that is uploaded to a shared drive or web server). In addition, make sure to include all directions in your project description, such as if screen shots will be needed and what software you are requiring the professional to have either available to them or to own licensed copies of.
