Home Equity Contractors's reply
The center of the customer's house had settled over 1" per a structural engineer's report. We were hired to raise the joists and sister the joists and add blockers. The customer did not understand that if you raise the joists and do not add support posts, than when the jacks are removed the floor will lower again. Customer was notified at the time of the estimate that the kitchen tile above and drywall was going to get hairline fractures and/or crack. Customer signed off on the estimate and invoice with this knowledge and these disclaimers. Customer continually stopped the job to have us try something that I told her was not going to work. She did not understand the structure or physics of the house and what had to be done to correct the issue. Due to all of the stoppage, we were delayed two days with finishing the job. I told her I was going to charge her additional labor. The job was completed successfully. This review came from a customer who did not pay the invoice in full.
