Introduction: Students have told me that they appreciate the way I explain things and they are able to understand topics more clearly than they have with prior teachers. I believe this comes from my approach to help them see where the math comes from...rather than being satisfied with simply plugging numbers into a formula. I try to help them connect multiple ideas tighter, which helps them understand the big picture and see that mathematics is a language where all the parts work together very smoothly. I left the corporate environment to find a sense of purpose. I have found that in teaching and cannot imagine doing anything else. The most rewarding part of this career is that I can see the "light bulb" moment (pardon the cliche), and see the students develop a stronger appreciation and respect for mathematics.

As a public school teacher, we are continually given professional development opportunities where we learn about new technologies and strategies.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
The best advice is to communicate clearly. Let the tutor know what you are struggling with and why you are requesting a tutor in the first place. If you do not feel that you are getting your money's worth from them, let them know. There is no sense in paying for a service you really are not receiving. Additionally, the person receiving the tutoring needs to do their part. I had a student in the past that told me her mom got her a tutor. I told her that she was wasting her money. The student was smart enough to understand everything, but just needed to pay more attention in class and use the resources already available to her.
