About The Pet Au Pair of Virginia LLC

We are a Richmond-based business that specializes in providing quality care for your pets in the comfort of your own home. Trust that we will care for your pets as we would our own and feel confident that your pet is safe and spoiled, while you are away!

The Pet Au Pair of Virginia LLC is solely owned and operated by Ashley Stone. Your pet is guaranteed to have the same caregiver every time, so you and your pet can feel at ease, building a lasting, quality bond with your sitter.

Aside from 28 years of dedication to her own pets, Ashley has 4 years combined experience in both veterinary and grooming environments. She was also certified in pet CPR and first-aid through the Greater Richmond Chapter of The American Red Cross in both 2005 and 2010.

The Pet Au Pair of Virginia LLC was licensed, bonded, and insured in February 2011 through The Pet Sitters Association LLC (PSA). We are also members of Sitter City (with a clean background check) and Pet Sit Finder.

We have experience with cats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets, mice, rats, gerbils, hamsters, fish, and birds, but would like to get to know your pet, whether it has fur, feathers, or scales!

Ashley and Danielle are wonderful. They are so caring and loving to my kiddos (Max, Grace & Budha). Max looks forward to his walks everyday. They have been available anytime a day and at a moments notice for an extra walk during the day or a trip to the groomers. It is so nice to be able to feel as though I know my animals are cared for while I'm away. I also love the fact that I get notes everyday letting me know how their day went. If you are looking for someone you can trust to love and care for your animals..I would recommend Ashley and Danielle of The Per Au Pair without a doubt. Best decision I made.

We used the pet au pair for our dogs when we went on vacation this summer and they were amazing !! Our dogs are spoiled brats :) and for them to be able to stay in their house rather than be put in an unfamiliar kennel was very nice. They were happy and treated with the same level of spoiled they're used to :). We got to go on our beach vacation without worrying about them and we will absolutely use the pet au pair again.

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. A pet owner seeking a reputable, trustworthy sitter should never hire someone that does not require a services contract allowing both parties to be informed as to how their rights will be represented. Also, sitters should always be Licensed, Bonded, & Insured as well as Pet CPR & First Aid Certified.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. A good pet sitter will always become attached to your pet. They should be treated as one of their own... and easily the worst part of being a full-time sitter is that when a job is over, you miss the pets you've been caring for day in and day out. A reputable sitter should tell you that it's not just a job for them.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Are you licensed, bonded, and insured? Are you certified in Pet CPR & First Aid? Do you have associates that work with you or will you be my pet's sitter each and every time? Will anyone else have access to my personal information or access to my home? What kind of experience do you have with pets outside of your current sitting and personal ownership?

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Sitters do not simply "play with puppies" all day. We take our jobs caring for your pets very seriously. When considering payment, $15-20 per visit is expected, due to travel expenses (gas). A sitter that requires less has not done the proper research to maintain a successful, long-term sitting business.
