Custom Furniture Building
Bottom line up front: OUTSTANDING, HIGHLY PROFESSIONAL WORK! We contacted Michael last September about building a mantle over the fireplace in our family room. After connecting, we spent two months going back and forth on different design ideas and pricing, along with several other builders, but Michael stood out from the others. We never felt pressured by Michael; he listened to our ideas and concerns and provided professional drawings each time. You will note from the photos that the entire job was complicated by the fact that the wall with the fireplace was completely mirrored. His design had to be such that the mantle was not affixed to the mirrors nor damage the mirrors in any way. As we neared the decision point for engaging Michael, he and his partner came out to the house to take measurements and show us samples of wood and stains. His materials were top of the line--real wood, not pressed or composite wood. We finally decided to move forward in mid-November. About five weeks later--we had asked for the job to be completed before Christmas--he and his partner returned with the mantle in pieces. Each piece was carefully wrapped and they assembled and installed the mantle in just a few hours over a steel substructure built to keep the mantle off the mirrors yet still able to support its own weight and the weight of a TV. It was amazing to see how precise his work had been and, as an engineer myself, I was very impressed with how well it turned out--literally fine furniture custom built by master craftsmen! My wife and I could not be more thrilled with the result. Not only does the mantle complement the room, but it was up in time for us to hang our stockings for Christmas. I unhesitatingly recommend Michael and Interpretive Woodwork & Design.Jan 25, 2020Verified

Custom Cabinet Building
Michael did an absolutely wonderful job on our built-in cabinets. He was quick in his response, fair with his price, and his work quality was out of this world. He is extremely professional and takes pride in his work, ensuring that every detail is on point. My husband usually goes through the home projects we hire out with a fine-tooth comb finding all the mistakes--he couldn't find one on these cabinets. We are extremely pleased with the look and feel that these cabinets and Michael's workmanship added to our home. It's sometimes hard to find work quality like this anymore but Michael is the exception. I want to think of other things I'd like him to build just so I could hire him again! You will not regret your decision if you go with Michael and Interpretative Woodwork and Design.Jul 29, 2019Verified
Mike was great to work with and did great creating custom pieces for our mud room, laundry room, and master bath. Was able to match existing cabinets in color and detail to make it look like it was part of the home. everything was prefabbed so installation was a breeze.Oct 18, 2019
Excellent experience with Mike--he prepared a professional CAD drawing of the proposed custom sized end tables, and once I approved it, he proceeded with the project. He twice sent me pictures of the tables as they were progressing, and asked my preference of hardware (hinges, knobs) and stain color. The project ended with delivery of the tables to my home. They turned out fantastic, and the price for this custom size, hand-built project was comparable to a standard-sized, mass produced end table probably made in China. These are made in the good old USA and judging from their weight, will never, ever come apart!Nov 1, 2019
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I like to discuss a clients project with them so I can narrow down details that will affect quote, ie. type of materials, finishes, accessories, etc. Once that is done my price will include labor, material, delivery/installation and I do require a deposit. We do offer military discounts as well.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I find it works best to discuss in more detail what the customer is looking for, so I can give a better quote and also to be able to offer new or different possibilities; as far as designs or different materials available to them. Also the customer is looking for something "custom" which allows much more options that might not be available to them elsewhere.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have about 30 years of experience working in my field, I have had the opportunity to work with many talented cabinet makers adding to my learning process.
