FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing includes: • Structured lesson planning • Personalized practice and problem selection • Progress tracking and ongoing adjustment • Clear communication with parents when needed I focus on consistent, weekly sessions because that’s where students see the strongest results.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My process is structured and goal-oriented: 1. Initial conversation We discuss the student’s goals, current challenges, past grades, and upcoming assessments. I also ask for sample work to identify patterns of misunderstanding. 2. Diagnostic session During the first session, I assess conceptual understanding, procedural accuracy, and confidence level. This helps determine whether the issue is foundational gaps, test anxiety, pacing, or specific topic confusion. 3. Clear plan moving forward Based on what I observe, I outline a plan, whether that means rebuilding algebra foundations, strengthening problem-solving strategies, or preparing for a specific exam. 4. Consistent weekly sessions We focus on structured learning rather than just finishing homework. I explain concepts clearly, model thinking step-by-step, and gradually shift responsibility to the student. 5. Ongoing adjustment As the student improves, we adapt the plan. The goal is independence and long-term confidence.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Statistics, which provide a strong theoretical foundation in algebra, problem-solving, and analytical reasoning. In addition, I am a CERI-certified reading instructor. This training has strengthened my ability to break complex ideas into structured, manageable steps. This is especially helpful for students with dyslexia or other learning differences. Professionally, I work as a Data Scientist, applying mathematical thinking and statistical analysis to real-world problems. This allows me to connect abstract math concepts to practical applications, helping students understand not just how to solve problems, but why they matter. I also run an educational YouTube channel, “Alg 1 w/ Sam,” where I teach structured Algebra 1 lessons using visuals, color-coding, and real-life connections. The channel reflects how I tutor one-on-one: clear explanations, logical progression, and an emphasis on deep understanding. The channel has grown to over 12,000 subscribers and continues to expand.
