FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My system for pricing my speaking appearances is first to estimate mileage which tells me not only the traveling costs in mileage, but also whether I will need to fly or drive. If it is too far for a day's drive, then lodging and meals enter in. Then I can estimate travel/lodging/meal costs. For safety I have someone who travels with me if at all possible. Then I determine the cost of the presentation according to the type of audience and the size of the audience. If it is an interactive program, the supplies needed are factored into the sum of the cost for the entire program.I try to be fair to the people who hired me and fair to myself as well. Some of the cost is for the time it takes to prepare the presentation.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My studying of writing is ongoing. I am currently enrolled in three writing classes from Perdue University. I do research to educate myself on topics that I intend to speak on. And I prepare myself for teaching/speaking on the Word and to counsel by reading and studying the Word on a daily basis.I am a certified, ordained chaplain. I have a degree in both psychology and religion. I have several hundred hours of additional training in various areas of counseling with people dealing with all types of grief/loss issues. I do not do couple counseling.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started writing when I was around eight years old. I wrote in my little blue diary with a lock and key to survive a very hurtful relationship with my mother and the unhappiness and violence that was between my mom and dad. Later I wrote to survive my dad leaving home. I started teaching when I was eighteen and was hooked on it. I believe there is a spiritual gift for teaching, and God has blessed me with it. I have taught all ages in all walks of life. When God laid on my heart to do radio, which I knew absolutely nothing about, He combined the public speaking and the teacher in me. In my forties I became a grief/loss-death/dying expert and counselor and a chaplain who worked with those dying patients. I was sent to aid in the recovery at the Oklahoma bombing and worked with Columbine and 9/11. My favorite thing to do is to teach the Word and watch people grow in the Lord and find peace and prosperity in Him whether they are in my audience or an individual seeking mentoring toward a better self.
