Introduction: My students and I develop a healthy rapport so they understand that I truly care about them learning what I have to teach them. Students, no matter what age, "don't care what you know until they know that your care!" The joy is seeing students change from dreading the learning process to being excited about finally doing better than they thought they could do. How did you get started doing this type of work?
I knew as a child that I would become a teacher. My grandparents had fifth and sixth-grade education but were entrepreneurs - owned a day-time grocery store which became a nigh-time restaurant.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Require proof on paper and in-person that progress is being made. Your student may see you as a part of the problem so give me a chance to make it work for everyone concerned (including the classroom teacher).
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Know that I "love" teaching because my students' lives are changed in terms of their confidence and feelings of self-worth, and because I understand their struggles and am able to work with the factors causing the struggles rather than against those factors.
