• What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

  Cheap labor isn’t skilled and skilled labor isn’t cheap. You want a good job done, you want your floors to genuinely look good? It won’t be cheap. Cheap jobs result in sloppy work and unhappy customers. It’s extremely expensive to run a business, we pay insurance for the business, the vehicles, works comp our equipment is expensive and must be have maintenance done every few jobs. You get the idea. We can’t afford to take our time when we barely breakeven. That’s the truth.

• What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

  Never choose a company based on price. Cheap bids drive down the market and anyone with overhead and proper insurance has to establish pricing to cover such costs. Those that do work on the side or are just working out of a pick-up truck can always do the work cheaper. But in the long run, you get what you pay for. Customers that are sold on price as their sole criteria ultimately end up spending more money to fix problems, and many of these problems would have been covered under a workmanship guarantee by a reputable established flooring company.

• What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

  Most questions are asked by the professional for his own clarification, however, homeowners should always talk through the question of affordability. What is the budget? How much are you looking to spend? Do you know the coast of such work? Etc. More often then not, customers set out to hire a professional for the job, he pays for the lead, they have him come out and look at the job and then they realize it’s way out of their budget.
