Melissa Batman Photography… On October 15, 2016, Melissa photographed our daughter’s wedding at Carolyn Baldwin Lake Pavilion in Farmville, Virginia. I will lead with, if I could give Melissa a 10-star rating, I would! She was professional, courteous, enthusiastic, and very focused. Melissa visited the venue with us earlier in the year and scoped out where she needed to be to capture the moments and she took Jen & Andrew’s engagement photos as well, there was level of confidence and trust already built making the working relationship easy and comfortable. Now for the rest of the story… We were hoping for a beautiful fall day with loads of color. We received the day; the temperature was in the mid-60s with calm water but little to no color change with the leaves as of yet. It had been too warm up until the week of the wedding for the leaves to have reached peak colors. At the last minute, I put a couple of fall photo opportunities together on the hill where we could capture the fall colors Jen had hoped for. I sent Melissa staged mock-ups of my thoughts two-(2) days before the wedding; without batting an eyelash, she agreed to take the additional wedding photos with the fall backgrounds. Wedding day – We were behind a tad due to the decorator not having her part completed on time but Melissa set-up and began to capture all the special moments while her assistant was in town stopping traffic to capture the exact right shot of the groom & groomsmen. Melissa was so easy to work with that Jen & Andrew had no problem with posing for the perfect shot. The lighting was perfect on the dock after the ceremony so it was a bit difficult to drag Melissa away from those shots an after seeing a sneak peek; those shots are going to be amazing so I’m glad we had allowed extra time for wedding pictures and didn’t have to rush her. Afterwards, we headed up the hill for the fall shots. They were sweet, fun, and different. We had a mirror, a fall background, and a fun Halloween background complete with witch’s hat and stockings! Jen’s favorite holiday is Halloween so we tried to give her all that she dreamed of on her special day. The rest of the evening was spent covering the reception and I have no doubt that Melissa captured virtually every little moment. She skirted the edge capturing moments that I doubt people were even aware of and captured pictures from every angle and height to be sure she had the best shot. I know you’re supposed to give both positive and negative’s in a review and I am so OCD that if there were mistakes, I would be the first to respectfully point them out. However, for the life of me, I cannot think of a single negative comment as it relates to Melissa Batman Photography (other areas, yes, there were a couple of hick-ups but not with the photography). I would highly recommend Melissa to anyone looking for a top-notch photographer at a reasonable cost. We are finished with weddings but our family will use Melissa's services in the future to capture special memories. Thank you Melissa for a fabulous job! With our deepest gratitude, Brian & Sharon

Melissa was great!! From our engagement shoot to the wedding day! She was the only photographer I found that had the quality pictures that I wanted for a reasonable price! She worked with me and made sure she knew what it was I wanted. I had a wedding party of 20 and she handled it very well!! I appreciate her so much!

We cannot thank Melissa Batman of Melissa Batman Photography enough for so perfectly capturing the beauty, joy, and abounding love of our daughter and her husband's wedding of June 17, 2017– truly, a magical day! We will be forever grateful to relive each and every moment of this amazing and extraordinary day. Because of Melissa, we will always be able to go back in our minds and hearts and experience all over again the feelings and emotions of Catherine and Ian's most special day. What a blessing it was to find Melissa! She is a true professional in every way. She not only knows her craft and has phenomenal skills, but she is, also, so very intuitive in capturing those "once-in-a-lifetime" moments that you will cherish forever. We had seen her beautiful photography on her FB page and her website, but it was after our first contact, and then talking with her and meeting with her, that we knew we had found the absolute best person for such an important life event. Melissa is passionate about her work and is devoted to making her clients happy with the end results of her work. She takes the time to ask questions, listen to her clients, and gets to know what it is, exactly, that you want specifically and are looking for, overall, during your special day. Melissa was able to photograph ALL of the priceless, precious moments during the entirety of Catherine and Ian’s wedding day -- from the beginning as the entire bridal party was getting ready; shooting all the beauty and splendor of the venue that displayed all the glorious floral arrangements and bouquets made by the groom’s mother; effortlessly capturing their amazingly sentimental and emotional ceremony as my brother, a minister and Catherine’s uncle, presided and pronounced them “husband and wife”; readily snapping the multitude of candid shots with all our family and friends that shared in this special day; to the spectacular sparkler exit as the happy couple “dipped” and posed one last time before leaving. Melissa was able to flawlessly depict all the love that was shared and was so clearly evident as we all celebrated the happy couple. There were also some very unique and personal family moments that she was sure to capture in such a natural, exquisite way. We all truly feel blessed to have found Melissa, but more importantly, Catherine and Ian felt totally confidant and trusted Melissa completely to capture and reflect in her photos their love for each other and the true essence of the “best day of their lives” and the “wedding of their dreams.” She has proved a thousand times over we made the best decision choosing her to photograph one of the most important events in our lives. You know, several times during their wedding day, my daughter said that she “wishes this day would never end.” And now, Catherine and Ian will treasure their incredible wedding pictures and will have forever memories, always, of their most exceptional, full-of-love wedding day! What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I try very hard to work within my client's budgets and have different packages available to fit various budgets.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
With my wedding clients, I like to meet beforehand preferably at the wedding venue. This is a time for us to discuss expectations and desires. If at all possible, I like to do an engagement session. These sessions are a fun, relaxed way for us to get to know eachother and for the couple to become comfortable working with me. On the wedding day, time is so tight and everything goes much smoother if we have already worked together.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started my photography career apprenticing with a professional photographer many years ago. I continually strive to educate myself with mentoring, classes, books and articles.
