About
I'm a Japanese-American classical pianist from Virginia. I've performed at the Lincoln Center in New York, the Kennedy Center in DC, and Suntory Hall in Japan. I can teach in both English and Japanese (although my Japanese is not very good). I just moved back into the DMV area a few years ago and I hope to be more active in the scene here over the next few years. I maintain a private piano studio in Reston, right next to the Reston Town Center.
Over the last 10 years, I have taught over 400 children and adult learners across NYC, Southern California, and the DMV area. I'm currently a faculty member at Levine Music, where I teach at the Silver Spring and the West Falls Church campus. I enjoy working with musicians of all ages and backgrounds and seeing improvement and progress. Beginner piano lessons will focus on basic note-reading, theory, developing proper technique, and musical understanding. I host two studio recitals every year and I encourage everyone to participate. Performance and sharing music is an important part of playing an instrument.
My rate is $90 an hour, $70 for 45 minutes, and $60 for 30 minutes.
Students must own a keyboard or piano at home to practice on, and need to bring a ringed binder for materials outside the curriculum books. That's about it.
Apologies if I take a few hours to respond. I try to get to everyone as soon as I can--usually within 24 hours.

My son has been taught by Keiju and it’s been so enjoyable and rewarding for him. He plays in his spare time and we really appreciate the fact that he enjoys it without feeling like it’s an obligation. That’s why his lessons are worth it because you can learn and see the progress. Highly recommend Keiju as a piano teacher, he has patience and his style pushes the student enough while still making it enjoyable.

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing here is cheaper than hiring me through an institution. I believe lessons with me through a school is on average about $130/hr. I charge $90/hr privately.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For young beginners (5-9) I work off of the Faber books (with supplementary curricula).
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
