- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
You should be comfortable with the martial arts instructor, the students, the facility, and the governing or certifying organization of the group you are considering. There should be a good match between what you are looking for in a program and the goals of the group you decide to work with. In a sport like judo we are often in very close contact and some of the moves involve strenuous physical effort and falls, therefore safety is paramount and should be a central part of practice and instruction. You should feel comfortable with the people around you and the situation. The instructor and students should be courteous and willing to answer any and all questions you may have, and also be willing to work at a pace you are comfortable with. Classes and practices should be well organized and foster an atmosphere of mutual welfare and benefit. Most judo clubs or teams are not run for profit and offer some of the best martial arts values around. Judo is an excellent, international community with which to be involved!
