Introduction: Shem Roose came up as a photographer in the progression-fueled early 90's era of snowboarding. Roose's photo career began while working for Burton Snowboards, and quickly evolved to include shooting the sport's best riders and traveling extensively as Transworld Snowboarding's Photo Editor and later as a staff photographer for Vans. Roose has since expanded his range of subjects and clients beyond action sports to include work for the NBA, All Earth Renewables, Circle Strings Guitars, Seventh Generation as well as many wedding couples. Relocated back in the Green Mountain State, where you'll find him snowboarding in the winter, biking in the summer, and parenting his son and daughter year round; Roose's appetite for strong, story-telling image creation continues to be his main drive. -Jesse Huffman Being a photographer and videographer allows me to meet people from all walks of life. Working with Shem as our wedding photographer was fantastic. From the very beginning, Shem was easy and professional to work with- we were planning our wedding from far away, and he was one of the only vendors to respond to emails and phone calls immediately with information we needed- which was so nice. We just looked through our wedding photos, and Shem and his wife Rebecca captured our wedding day perfectly. The portraits are lovely, but then the candids, dance photos, and scenery photos, just recreate the whole wedding day. They also, when they were on their way out, grabbed me and my new husband to take photos outside in the falling snow, and those photos are some of our favorites. We are so pleased to have found Shem and with the photos we can relive the wedding day anytime!

We are so pleased that we chose Shem Roose as our wedding photographer! He and his wife (and lovely assistant) Rebecca were so wonderful to work with from the very beginning. At our outdoor engagement photo shoot, Shem thought of creative poses for us that felt very natural -- some playful, some romantic -- and incorporated a lot of the beautiful scenery that surrounded us. We were at ease in front of the camera, thanks to Shem's calm demeanor and Rebecca's enthusiasm and encouragement. On our wedding day, Shem captured each moment so beautifully. While he got every photo we asked for, we were also open to his creative ideas and suggestions, and it helped that our venue had so many great spots for photo ops! We received our final edited photos in less than two weeks after our wedding, and they came out beautifully. We were so impressed at how quickly Shem was able to turn them around for us. Even better, we own all of the photos outright and didn't have to pay for each copy of a photo. We would absolutely recommend Shem to anyone looking for a photographer for their wedding, engagement, family portraits, or any other special occasion.

Shem is everything you want in a photographer: calm, patient, a good listener, wise, kind and professional. He was a complete joy to work with and he took the most amazing photos of my family that I have ever seen.

I work with clients to discuss their needs and determine my pricing based on the scope of the work.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I enjoy meeting with potential clients to go over their expectations and vision for their project or wedding day. Rather than exchanging e-mails only, meeting in person allows my clients to learn more about me and my approach to my work.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a self taught photographer and have been shooting photos for over twenty years. My career began in snowboarding where I worked for Transworld Snowboarding Magazine. After becoming a Father, I began shooting weddings in 2004 and have enjoyed working with couples from all over New England.
