Besides having 3 pieces of furniture to put together, I had some easier tasks as well, which is why I requested 2 guys for one day. (I had no idea Caio and Oscar worked for another company on the island. and thus had other responsibilities.) We agreed I would pay $75. an hour to each of them. They arrived at 8:00 am on a Friday, and worked until 12:00 putting the 3 pieces together, doing a nice job. I had shown them the other smaller jobs, so they were aware there was more work to do. But at 12:00 Caio said he was going home and Oscar would be taking him to the ferry. I asked if Oscar (who doesn't speak English) would be coming back. Caio said yes, but Oscar also would be taking a break for lunch. At 12:30, Oscar did return and worked for 30 min. completing one small task. Then he signaled that since he was going to the recycling place to dump trash, he could take mine as well. I indicated he could take several cardboard boxes (and also take 30 lbs. of Children's books which I had offered to Caio for his little boy.) When we discussed the additional work, I made it clear hat I was home every day, and they were welcome to stop by at their convenience to finish the remaining jobs. I actually waited for 2 weeks thinking they would show up! Silly me. What Caio didn't seem to understand is that NO ONE would accept a job requiring a trip to SJI for 2-3 hours of work, which is why I had included those tasks to the furniture construction. So I am left wondering what to do !!??!! In summary: Caio and Oscar were very pleasant and did nice work, for as long as they felt like working. They were also thoughtful to add my boxes to their trip to the recyclers. I was also very nice, willing to adjust to their work schedules and giving little Noah more than $200 of books rather than taking them to the resale shop. Would I hire them again? No. Since they were on SJI Glass's time clock, I feel SJI Glass should receive $300 for Caio's 4 hours of work and $340 for Oscars 4.5 hours. We are all nice people; I'm just sorry this job didn't work out better.
