I had known James for about a year before I started training with him. He was a customer at a coffee shop I worked at, and he was just "the weird trainer dude who put MCT oil in his coffee". :) Then when I started training with him, I realized how beneficial his knowledge base could be for more areas of my life than just lifting or physical movement. He has a vast knowledge of how the human body works, which influences his training technique, how he coaches you through tougher movements, how he helps you heal, and how he gives advice on other areas of life (nutrition, habits, self discipline, life in general). Some of James' coaching may feel silly and weird and uncomfortable at first, but once you start following his plan and guidance, you see yourself and your capabilities change. I came into James' classes barely being able to hold myself up in a plank, and using very light weights just for basic movements. One of the last classes I did with him I was deadlifting 175 pounds and doing hand stands! After 6 months of training! (I honestly never believed I could do either of those things!) I think Minneapolis definitely lost out on James moving away, but I'm glad more people get to train with him!

James did a fit assessment with me, and taught me some Z-health corrective exercises. The exercises dramatically increased my range of motion and posture within a half an hour. I consider him highly adept.

Extremely thoughtful, lateral thinker. Someone putting the fun back in healthy, skillful movement. A practicer and well as a teacher; with open mind and closed fist.

Krav Maga Kirkland is amazing! Not only have my self defense skills improved greatly, but my cardio and strength have improved tremendously as well in just a few months. The classes have also made me mentally tougher and I am able to keep going when my body feels like giving up. Being a law enforcement officer, this is invaluable! I would recommend Krav Maga Kirkland to anyone looking to improve their self defense skills or to those looking for an awesome workout.

I started Krav a few weeks ago intending just to get my feet wet in self defense, but I'm getting way more than that! It feels great to get in a couple more hard workouts during the week, and I'm getting to know some fantastic people! Kirkland Krav Maga has a supportive atmosphere and it's a great outlet in the midst of a crazy work schedule. Thanks Kirkland Krav! So excited to have both Kirkland and Woodinville locations for even more options!

Hello, my name is Andrew, and I'm a professional MMA fighter out of Japan and currently an MMA coach in Thailand. I was a student under Kye for years before he ever formed the style of Heiwa Na Kaimetsu and had the privilege of personally experiencing his concepts and innovations regarding combat. He is an outstanding teacher, focusing on your personal progress in all areas relating to martial arts, including the physical, mental and even the spiritual. His knowledge of unarmed combat is extensive, and though he possesses physical strength, his focus on technique over muscle was extremely helpful. Each class is tailored to the individual. I cannot stress this enough: if you train with Kye, he will do everything in his power to improve your personal weaknesses and add to your strengths. He treats everyone with the same humble respect and friendliness, but also keeps each student as their own person and taps into their potential. Working with Kye was a wonderful experience and brought me great success in my professional endeavors and personal development. I still come to him for advice in both realistic combat and meditation. I urge you to try his class, and recommend it for the serious martial artist and amateur alike. -Andrew

I began training with Kye two years ago when I was a freshman in college. I had never done anything like martial arts before, but hearing of his lessons gave me the opportunity to break out of my shell and achieve that dream. His lessons were beginner friendly and I never felt looked down upon for being a girl, a small fry, etc. Soon, I could use my body in ways I never knew I could, and was able to puruse my own individual path as a martial artist. It was good routine excercise and built a lot of self-confidence. I learned a lot of good self-defense for everyday life as well as awesome moves for practice matches. As a teacher, Kye is patient, charismatic, fun and willing to go the extra mile to help his students learn. I would recommend Kye's system for anyone wishing to pursue their martial arts dreams!

This is a great martial arts school to be a part of. The elemental based-styles are very intriguing and fun to learn! This is a great place to not only train, but be yourself! By training with different elements, it's an awesome way to discover things about yourself and get more awareness! Kye is a great teacher who teaches everyone as a whole and also gives the individual attention that's necessary to progress. The classes are very challenging both mentally and physically but with all the right amounts of fun mixed in! I look forward to training in this school more!

I have been coming to SAMMA for about 4 years now. It is an amazing place full of friendly and knowledgeable doctors, martial artists, and friends. They not only teach and preach health and wellness, but live it as well. And the community of people this business has created is just phenomenal.

Hello! My name is Sasha Zudova. I just turned 38 years old this past April. I am originally from Russia. Prior to this, I was severely struggling with trying to change my own body by training myself and having the so called “skinny fat” look, so I put my pride and ego aside and decided to hire help. I looked around for a while through, craigslist, Angie’s list, yellow pages before I made my final decision. My top concern was affordability, but I also wanted high value. The cost initially attracted me to inquire more information about Unconquerable Strength, but little did I realize the value that would accompany my investment later down the line. I also wanted my health concerns acknowledged and taken into account; I have struggled with depression and lower back pain. So I scheduled a 30 Minute consultation; which was free. I met with Alex who is the Program Advisor. He was very professional and informative within the given time frame. He debunked a lot of lies and misinformation that I feel the public is not aware of. He showed me astonishing before and after pictures of past clients who were successful; which instilled hope within me. He made his mission statement very clear; “We design personalized exercise programs based on science!” That is the reason I ultimately chose Unconquerable Strength. So we came up with a 3 month program and Alex scheduled me with my initial training session. The following week I met my Trainer; his name was Zohan. Upon initial meeting with Zohan, he was immediately welcoming, sociable, and genuine. He listened to all my concerns and what I truly wanted to get out of this. We talked about my goals, more lies and misinformation, nutrition, proper supplementation, and he even accompanied me to the grocery store to educate me about how to eat properly. He was extremely knowledgeable. He was also very supportive and motivating during our training sessions together. As time progressed it became more apparent to me that Zohan’s training style indeed implicates scientific methods. It has been 7 months now and I have put on about 10 pounds of muscle, reduced my body fat percentage from 20% to 10%, increased my range of motion, my lower back pain is gone, my depression has subsided, and I feel like a new man! I am well informed and my self-esteem and confidence has skyrocketed. Speaking from all aspects of my health, I feel reborn. I am telling you, stop going to these big name gyms that don’t deliver. They are expensive and don’t even come close to the value you will receive from Unconquerable Strength. This was one of the best decisions of my life! I implore you, give them a call and see how they can help you.

Zoahn is an experienced and trustworthy trainer. His thorough knowledge of the human body allows him to develop a unique workout for all of his clients. During our initial consultation Zohan spent most of the time observing my irregularities. Following he asked me about my fitness goals. Together we have agreed upon a plan that will allow me to reach my fitness goals while strengthening my irregularities to achieve my ideal body type. Action-packed yet cheerful work-outs. Zohan is a experienced/professional trainer at a reasonable price! I would recommend him to everyone and anyone... even my grandmother.

I have been training with Mr. Rainey for almost 2.5 years, beginning at the end of March 2013. I believe this will lend some credibility to this review. Mr. Rainey knows his art, and has direct lineage back to the founder of the American Kenpo system, SGM Ed Parker. Mr. Rainey is very much attuned to how to teach, encourage, and develop the skills of beginning students, just as he is for the advanced. This is regardless of whether the student comes to American Kenpo from another system (as in my case) or is completely new to the martial arts. It is worth clarifying that Mr. Rainey teaches is a "martial art" not a "sport". There is a big difference between the two and there are not so many schools that do this anymore. If one's interest is to learn effective self defense, this is the place. With that being said, American Kenpo is also a very complete/comprehensive martial art system that transcends just personal self defense. It is also about self discipline, personal growth, the development of greater self confidence, and physical health. After devoting over 40 years to the martial arts myself, most notably training and teaching Taekwon-do (before choosing to start all over again with Mr. Rainey and the American Kenpo system), I can certainly attest to Mr. Rainey teaching abilities and the overall effectiveness of the American Kenpo system of martial arts. My only regret has been that I did not come to know the Kenpo system, and Mr. Rainey, 42 years ago when my own martial arts journey began.

Verified review

If there were 10 stars available to rate Mr. Rainey, I would give him those and more..My experience with him has been a profound journey back into the Kenpo world that I left a long time ago. He is undoubtedly one of the best, if not the best, American Kenpo teacher/instructors that has ever taught the art and that any new students will find. His patience with new students, older students and those of us who are attempting to re-establish ourselves back into the style is exemplary. I not only have the utmost respect for him, but consider him to be a true friend. His grasp of the style, his years of training, teaching abilities and his understanding of the physical and mental aspects of American Kenpo have elevated him to a true Master and beyond..

Where to start.......33 years ago I met this man. Humble with a level of confidence that was unassuming yet visible. His movement captured my eyes as well as many classmates. His teachings were even better. The manner in which he treats students is not one of "the karate instructor god" but the teacher he truly is. His knowledge of the art and respectful ways blend with a truly intriguing environment that is exciting to learn in. Your life will truly change with any time spent in his school because it teaches you about yourself and how to conduct your life........in time. I cannot say too much about how my life was changed and confidence increased. It would be difficult to do better.

As most people, I found it really hard to get motivated to workout on my own. I decided I would try out a few personal training sessions, and got set up with Shawn. I've got to say it was one of the best decisions I've made in a long time! Shawn keeps things interesting by having you do different things, and pushing you when you need to be pushed. He's really knowledgeable about anatomy and physiology and explains why you are doing specific exercises, and what the benefits to each exercise are. The results are fantastic. I am in the best shape I've been in since senior year of high school! I've been training with Shawn for over a year now and would highly recommend him to anyone looking to make some updates to their health and appearance. Be prepared to work, but it is well worth it.

I started working with Danny almost two months ago. My initial goal was for him to help me strengthen my lower body because I felt that I was doing a good job of improving my upper body on my own. But after working with Danny for only a month and noticing dramatic improvement in my lower body, I asked him to work with me an additional day each week to train me on my upper body, as well. Danny is kind, respectful, inspiring, encouraging and very knowledgeable on physical fitness. I highly recommend Danny as your personal trainer, as well. You won't be disappointed.

A little over a year ago, I made the decision that my daughter and I would learn how to properly defend ourselves against an attacker should this unfortunate event ever present itself. We decided to take training from Joanne Factor of Strategic Living in Seattle. It has been 11 months, and a handful of classes later, and we feel 110% confident that we could protect ourselves if necessary. Joanne Factor is amazing. She not only describes and teaches us in easy to understand instruction, but she also teaches us the physical and mental skills necessary to properly disable an attacker. I give Joanne Factor the highest rating possible and highly recommend everyone and anyone take her training classes ! Even in the face of serious issues, Joanne also makes classes fun and exciting. Joanne's classes definitely should be taken by any and all women and teens ready to take off to college. Thanks Joanne !!

I highly recommend NOVA Self Defense. The staff members are extremely professional and classes are taught with safety as the highest priority a supportive and non-intimidating learning environment. The instructors, Evan and Malcolm, explained the self-defense concepts in very easy to understand manner, and they were always willing to answer any questions or concerns from the students. Students learn both the psychological and physical concepts of real world self-defense. This keeps the classes engaging and also stimulating. The self-defense drills are taught so that all body types and fitness levels can benefit and learn. Also, the students are exposed to role playing scenarios to simulate real world situations. I have recommended NOVA Self Defense courses to many of my friends and coworkers, and I will continue to take their courses in the future to continue to build my knowledge and skill base.

Going in NW Kickboxing & MMA over a year ago I really was unsure what to expect, but I soon discovered the pure passion and love for the arts the instructor has. The instructor is patient, and expects all student to respect one another " No picking on the new guy" mentality. I will be apart of this school for a very long time. I give the highest of recommendation to anyone to attend this school, your really not going to find a more knowledgeable instructor that wants to pass on his love for Martial Arts. You will walk out of the school each day with more knowledge and self respect than the day before.

I have a 15 year old daughter. I want her to learn how to protect herself over the summer. She's in very good condition but it would be good if she gained appropriate awareness of her environment, developed some instincts about her surroundings and thoughtfulness about her behavior, and learned to throw a knee, elbow or fist, break a chokehold, and get away. That would be a fantastic start.
