Hired on Thumbtack

I want to first point out that this company went by "SNS Contruction, LLC" when I hired them in Aug 2021. The owner went by Sipiliano, and I see that he is now going by "Sione." The man in the profile picture is the one who showed up at my home going by the name of "Sipiliano." The ownership of this company is now under two other people's names & listed under a Bonney Lake address, instead of Auburn. All of this information is easily searchable. He also owns another entity called Lui Construction. SNS had a $12,000 bond that was exhausted by Sept 2021 due to 4 claims already being filed against it. Thumbtack kicked him off their platform when he refused to address the damage and breach of contract for the project I hired him for. I just found him on there again under S&C, but all the messages are still in my inbox from when he was Sipiliano at SNS, even though his business name has slightly changed. Please do your research. From my understanding, this companies bonding & insurance he had when I hired him was canceled due to his negligence. I found Sipliano Lui with SNS Construction LLC here on Thumbtack and hired them to do work on my backyard. The owner, Sipliano, gave me a quote of $8500 for the following plan - Dig down 4 inches in an 1800 square foot area, remove the sod and soil & take to the dump. - Excavate soil from high areas, remove & take it to the dump. - Thoroughly regrade the backyard to an appropriate height and level. - Lay down and pin landscape fabric throughout the entire area - Install 4 inches of gravel over the landscape fabric. When he & his crew came to do the install, they did not dig down four inches, nor remove any sod & soil from my yard. They just brought in a small tractor, moved the sod & soil around, laid down landscape fabric (without securely pinning it), then put about two inches of pea gravel over the top. He & his crew were here for one day (about 9 hours total). There were six workers, but half of them went back & forth between my job & another job they had down the street. Once the gravel was installed & I realized that they did not do what was listed in the initial quote, I confronted the owner about it. He refused to reduce the price and convinced me he did everything correctly. I have since researched the correct way to install pea gravel. If it's done correctly, the maximum professional install price for is around $3 per square foot, but that price includes a crushed rock or sand base to help stabilize the gravel. (Edging around the central area of my yard should have also been incorporated in his initial estimate to help contain the gravel.) Otherwise, it's $1 - $2 per square foot. For reference, the square footage of my backyard is around 2,000, which means the price of the job should have been no more than $4,000 based on how it was installed. Sipliano told me he would use "clean" pea gravel, which did not happen & has created even more issues. The landscape fabric is now sticking up all over my yard. According to his quote, it was supposed to be trimmed & pinned down. Neither of those things happened. They also laid gravel up against my slated fence, so a lot of it is going into my neighbor's yard (which they are not happy about), & they did not put any edging around my deck, so the gravel is migrating underneath it. To make matters worse, they left a large amount of the pea gravel on my driveway, which is like driving on soft snow, and it's spreading onto my front lawn every time I pull in & out. They also did not lay down plywood on my front yard to protect it from the tractor, so it was torn up. The owner promised he would reseed the lawn, which also never happened. To top it off, one of his workers was using my metal rake to spread the gravel and then took it. Sipliano promised to get it returned, but that didn't happen either. I tried reaching out to Sipliano several times as I started to see all of the issues. It took five text messages and a phone call before he finally responded. He said he would come by on Aug 23rd to address everything. He didn't show up, nor did I hear from him. I then made a post on FB asking if anyone could refer me to someone to help me fix the enormous mess & tagged his company. He texted me within minutes of my post, sounding agitated, but offered to address the issues the next day. I sent an email to him with his estimate attached & listed everything they did not & all of the problems they caused in both my front & backyard. I asked him to put in writing what he was willing to fix at no extra cost & I would be happy to meet with him once clarified. He ignored that request & asked again to meet. When I reiterated, he completely stopped responding. I then filed a dispute resolution with Thumbtack. They immediately requested a response from him asking to resolve the issues & come to an agreement. When he ignored their request, they suspended his account and gave him three days to address the situation. That also did not work. His company has now been removed from Thumbtack due to his refusal to address both the breach of contract, & fix the damage he caused. I have received estimates from other contractors since, and it's going to cost me at least $12,000 to fix and redo the damage that was done. Even more disappointing is I explained to Sipliano that my business was hit extremely hard by Covid. I own a pet care company, & we started using my yard during the pandemic for puppies to play in a safe, monitored environment, so to be taken advantage of like this is devastating.

He would not even respond. He sent me a message stating he wanted to come by next day and that was the last I heard from him. As far as his work who knows if he can't respond.
