Introduction: Greetings, and congratulations on your upcoming wedding! We specialize in personalized ceremonies from the simple to the elaborate. It's your day; it should happen your way. I do honor all spiritual traditions--and most non-traditions!--and am always willing to try to accommodate your preferences. I also strive to keep my rates affordable and negotiable, starting at about $150 for a very basic ceremony (that includes free phone/email consults; travel and rehearsal fees may apply); I'd be happy to send you more information regarding wedding ceremony elements and packages. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or if you’d like to schedule a time to meet and chat. We're here to make you happy and your Big Day a bit less stressful! It's such a joy to meet the couples and learn their stories: they make the ceremony so special!

Wedding Officiant

Matthew made our 4th of July wedding so wonderful. Communicating with him was so personable. He was fun, and laughed with our family. He is quick to respond and is very punctual about putting together your big day. I think he is well worth more than what he charges, and would highly recommend him for any event! Thank you again for making our day special!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Yes and no. My fees are affordable and negotiable, starting at about $150 for a very basic ceremony. Custom ceremony elements can add to the cost, and travel fees may apply.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Being a wedding officiant, I recognize that the wedding ceremony is all about the couple, not about me. So I constantly keep their needs and preferences at the forefront. After initial contact (usually by email or phone), I try to set up a meeting--a free consultation--with the prospective bride and groom, along with any family members who wish to be present. After that, if it seems like we're a good fit (and we almost always are!), I keep in contact with the couple, shaping their ceremony and plans into exactly what they want. Each ceremony is unique, as is each couple, and it's always fascinating to see what evolves. Such a pleasure!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I majored in Religious Studies (comparative religions) at UC Santa Barbara, attended Yale Divinity School, and, although I'm not affiliated with any particular church, have continued to study spirituality in all its various manifestations throughout my life.
