At Lighthouse Nutrition and Wellness, I see clients mostly for weight management (mostly losing, a few gaining), pre-diabetes, heart and gastrointestinal (GI) health, and food sensitivity testing and diet therapy.
Science and Evidence-Based Support
I am a registered dietitian-nutritionist (as of 2010) who graduated with a Master's level education in nutrition science from an accredited university and accredited nutrition program. At LNW I provide medical nutrition therapy (MNT) and have had close to 10 years+ experience in assisting clients with their nutritional health via science and evidence-based guidelines, while using a holistic, whole body, whole person, functional-integrative wellness approach.
This is an important point, because many nutritionists out there have inadequate training, but manage to make it look impressive. Some examples of this would be having a degree but it's in another field, or a "certification" or "degree" from a school that for example, may be a one-year course instead of a four-year degree, but the health professionals are calling themselves "nutritionists."
It's important that you get a nutritionist who is educated, and accountable and has the right background. So, here's a major tip. Whether you choose me or someone else, before hiring a nutritionist, please do some homework. This will take a little digging! First of all, make sure they have ample education (bachelors or master's or PhD) from an accredited college (this in itself takes some digging). Make sure that the topic was nutrition science, and that they have years of experience in what you are wanting help with, perhaps additional training and certificates in a specific sub-field of nutrition you are interested in.
The main, most obvious go-to in the field of nutrition is the registered dietitian. Registered dietitians (RD's) are the most science-based and commonly known professional in the field of nutrition in the world. They have taken and passed a monitored, national board exam (not an online test you can take at home) at an accredited testing facility, spent more than 1,000 hours out in the nutrition field being monitored as a student, and are required to continue to earn 75 educational credits every five years in order to continue their RD status.
Comprehensive, Thorough, One-on-One
I care about my clients! In addition, our See the Lite Amazing Weight Loss For Life ™ 8-week jump start weight loss program is a program like no other we’ve seen anywhere it's similar to what you'd find at an educational health resort or spa. Your 1-1 program appointments (scheduled at your convenience) will address all the main lifestyle facets of weight management, such as the obvious angles of food and beverage choices, eating out and traveling, mind and emotions in regard to food, sleep and stress. I also address medical and diet history, current medications and supplements, hormonal issues such as menopause, and much more we will discuss when I see you. We are so thorough, that our program includes metabolic rate testing, a grocery store tour and cooking demo, and more – It really is quite a voyage!
Real Food That You Like
I respect all the foods you are eating now and your food tastes, likes and dislikes. Hey, I’m certainly not perfect either! There will be new foods and drinks to recommend, and I see this as an adventure to see which ones you will like and which ones will need tweaking. No two client scenarios are the same, so I screen who may benefit from meal replacements and supplements. Most clients can get to great health on real food alone, and 90% of our clients do so on this path. A few clients can benefit from meal replacements and supplements though, and after thorough assessments, you and I can determine that as we go.
You Get a Diet Detective
If you come to us with a particularly difficult nutritional health situation, you can trust I will be doing some digging to best help you, using the most cutting edge (yet still science-based) methods I have available to me. If I am not able to help you, I will do my best to refer you to another RD more suited to resolve your issue. If it's an issue outside nutrition, I have a growing number of health professionals I respect to refer you to for those issues and/or conditions.
We Work With You to Enroll
We don't want any clients who are a good fit to be left out of our services! At LNW, we accept many major insurance plans which pay for RD services, and also our See the Lite! program has a pay-as-you-go option. Please discuss with us your particular situation and need.
Virtual Health Option
While I prefer to work 1-1 with clients in person, another great option we have for clients who live outside decent driving range of our office, is for me to visit with them in person once or twice for initial assessments, and then see me via phone or HIPAA-COMPLIANT secure video for their convenience for the next set of followups.
We Don't Want Tons of Clients
What? Yes you read that right. At Lighthouse Nutrition and Wellness, we’d love to make money – who wouldn’t? But what’s more important to us is having happy clients who have added years, or even decades to their lives. Therefore, we purposefully keep our number of client appointments under a certain number every week, to be able to provide quality one-on-one care to our clients. That's not something you see out there often, while many of my colleagues are proudly racking up 20 or more appointments per week.
We want clients who fit us and who will benefit. If you like all that you’ve been reading, and have seen our website at Lighthouse-Nutrition.com and are motivated, then we want YOU! Please do not hesitate to call to join us on a wonderful health adventure that will guide you towards health and happiness, and a much longer, greater quality of life.
May God bless you!
We hope to hear from you!
There are so many weight loss and nutrition programs and products out there.
People lose weight and are so happy, but then most or all of it comes back - sometimes and then some, years later. Does your current nutritionist or program or product address this?
Since I love a challenge, it's the hard part that comes later - helping clients keep the weight off years down the road, and seeing them make major strides and changes to A1C, cholesterol levels, GI symptoms dissipating, having more energy, weight going down, through lifestyle and diet change, that really thrills me the most. I have faith in my clients, and it's so awesome when they have faith in me long-term as well!
