I had the pleasure and the benefit of getting critical help from Mary Liz Thomsson during the first, custody, stage of my divorce. She wrote several documents that I used in strategizing with my lawyer and which my lawyer used in preparing herself for court. These things are not especially complicated but are more questions of judgment, and both my attorney and I thought Ms. Thompson’s judgment was superb.
Ms. Thomson also gave me considerable help editing the initial 10-page declaration I made and then in doing similar work on my 5-page reply to my (soon-to-be ex-) wife’s response. Readers of this recommendation should take that as pretty high praise because I am a journalist and pride myself on writing things clearly and economically. Ms. Thomson has a great eye!
All in all, I am not sure I would have succeeded – as I did – without Ms. Thompson’s help. I certainly had far more confidence and far less anxiety through it all because of her steadying hand. And I would certainly recommend that anyone going through a difficult divorce would do well to have her by their side.
